  • About Rehoming through Rabbit Advocates

The Rabbit Advocates Rehoming Program is designed to assist people who would like support in finding a new, loving, indoor home for their rabbit(s). There are essentially two potential pathways: Adoption Assistance or Surrender. Due to the impacts of COVID-19, wildfires, and Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus - Type 2 (RHDV2), the organization's resources are stretched very thin.

Adoption Assistance: Allows rabbit owners to "foster" their own pets while Rabbit Advocates advertizes them for adoption on our website, and screens and educates potential adopters.

In order to qualify for the Adoption Assistance Program:

    • All pets in the home, including the rabbits for adoption, must be fixed.
    • Proof of a recent veterinary check-up must be provided.
    • Participants must go through our foster provider application, interview, training, and approval process.
      • "Rehome fosters" are expected to follow the same guidelines as of our foster providers and provide an indoor home that is either indoor free-roam or in an enclosure no smaller than 16 sq feet for a single rabbit or 20 square feet for a bonded pair.

Surrender: If people needing to rehome their rabbit(s) cannot go through the Adoption Assistance Program and need to surrender their rabbits to Rabbit Advocates, the organization can try to find foster placements for the rabbit(s). We do not have a shelter facility so we are unable to take surrendered rabbits directly into our care immediately unless there are exceptional circumstances and we have space available with our current foster providers. Rabbit Advocates is an all-volunteer non-profit and may not have sufficient funds for spays/neuters and medical care, and may not have enough spaces available in certified foster homes.

Kindly note that completing this request form does not constitute an agreement or offer to rehome rabbit(s) through Rabbit Advocates. This form is intended to gather the information needed to help determine potential next steps. If Rabbit Advocates can help, there are separate contracts for each pathway that must be signed.

Rabbit Advocates tries to respond within 3 days of receipt of requests, but due to the large volume of rescue reports and rehome requests, combined with rapid programmatic changes resulting from COVID-19 and RHDV2, we may not be able to respond as quickly as we'd like. After submitting this form, you should receive a confirmation email; if you do not receive a confirmation email, please check your "Spam" folder and re-submit. To follow-up on a submitted request, please email foster@rabbitadvocates.org.
