  • Dr. Elizabeth J. Johnson    Financial Assistance Scholarship 

    Dr. Johnson was a native of Columbus, Ohio and earned her bachelor's degree from Florida A&M University, her Masters degree in Business from Boston University, and her Doctorate in Psychology of Education from the University of Virginia. Dr. Johnson was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Past Basileus of the Iota Sigma Chapter. Dr. Elizabeth J. Johnson  served as the Director of the Virignia Union University Continuing Education and Adult Education Division.

  • Dr. Jocelyn G. Henry-Whitehead       Academic Scholarship

    Dr. Henry-Whitehead is a Baltimore, MD native and recieved a Bachelor of Science degree and Post Master's Certificcate in Education from Virginia Commonweatlh University along with a Masters degree, Educational Specialist and Doctorate in Higher Education from The College of William and Mary. Dr. Henry-Whitehead is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Dr. Jocelyn Henry-Whitehead has served as a Baltimore City Police Officer, a Corporate Trainer, Museum Educator, Music Teacher, an Assistant Principal, Head Start Director, and an Adjunct Professor. 

  • SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

    1. Requirements:

    • Applicants must reside in the Richmond Metropolitan area and attend a high school in the City of Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico, or Hanover Counties
    • Applicants must be a graduating senior
    • Applicants must be a minority female
    • Applicant must have a cummlative grade point average of 3.0 or higher (Dr. Jocelyn G. Henry-Whitehead  Academic Scholarship ) or a 2.5 or higher (Dr. Elizabeth J. Johnson Financial Assistance Scholarship )
    • Applicant must be accepted to a full-time study at an accredited four-year college or university and provide proof of acceptance 

     2. Application packets will not be considered unless they are complete. A complete application packet consist of:

    • Official copy of current high school transcript (uploaded or emailed to scholarshipis1935sgrho@gmail.com)
    • Academic resume with clubs and activities
    • One passport size photo attached
    • Copy of college/university accpetance letter 
    • Two letters of recommendation from an adult (NO family members)
      • One from a teacher/ school counselor/ school administrator
      • One from a community member
    • Applicant profile form
    • Applicant package checklist
    • Applicants completing the Dr. Jocelyn G. Henry-Whitehead Academic Scholarship- Please choose between the two essays below. Make sure the essay has 750-word (minimum), type written, double spaced and 12 point font.  
      • To what extent should governments regulate artificial intelligence?                                          Or
      • Explain the impact of climate change on global agricultural production.
    • Applicants completing the Dr. Elizabeth J. Johnson Financial Assistance Scholarship-Please choose between the two essays below. Make sure the essay has 750-word (minimum), type written, double spaced, 12 point font.  
      • How has your financial situation shaped your educational journey?                                          Or
      • How would receiving financial assistance help you achieve your career goals?

    3. Further Information:

    • Scholarships will be delivered directly to the university/ college upon accpetance of the scholarship
