TFL Undergraduate Scholarship for Students from CLMV Countries 2023
Description
In upcoming academic year, TFL program offers a scholarship award for students from CLMV countries (Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam). Apart from increasing cultural diversity in the program, the aim of this scholarship is to provide students from CLMV countries which is the strategic area for Thai language users an opportunity to get quality education. The coverage of the scholarship is four years and one round travel allowance. The program hopes that this scholarship will be beneficial for students who are interested in studying Thai while having economic difficulties.
Eligibility
- Be a citizen of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent to Thai GED (General Educational Development) with a minimum cumulative of GPA of 3.25
- Not bonded, holding any other scholarship or receiving assistance from any organization

Selection process and criteria
- In the 2023 academic year, one scholarship is provided which includes 440,000 THB (55,000 THB/semester: 8 semesters in maximum) and one round international travel allowance.
- Before launching an application, applicant must have:
- a standard English Proficiency Test:
- IELTS minimum band score of 5.5
- TOEFL minimum score of 470 PBT or 150 CBT or 52 iBT
- 2 letters of recommendation
- a statement of purpose written in Thai
- The selection of successful candidates begins with scholarship committee which comprises the academic staffs in the program consider the submitted applications. After the announcement of qualified applicants, the candidates will attend the interview. Then, the committee decide who should be granted the scholarship.

**student who granted the scholarship must register for the program before the 2nd round of CMU-IPAS ends (Feb 14th – Mar 24th 2023).
- The criteria that the committee use for choosing successful candidates is characterized by the two conditions. The first one is the applicants’ academic achievements in the past and the potential in achieving academic excellence in TFL program. The other one is the economic condition of the applicants which can put pressure or difficulties for the applicants in studying in the program. The weight between the two aspects is subject to the number of applications that are submitted each year.
Terms and conditions
- Successful applicant must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 on in every semester. They must also register in the courses for at least 15 credits per semester. Failure to maintain this academic performance will result in the suspension of the studentship in the next academic semester.
- Successful applicant must participate regularly in any activities hosted by the TFL program.
- Successful applicant must study full-time in the program in the first two years during the studentship period. Joining exchange program, study abroad program, internship, or any other programs that makes the applicants to be away from registering the courses in regular semester, will result in the suspension of the scholarship. The scholarship will be continued after the students resume the regular semester in Chiang Mai University.
- The scholarship does not apply to international students who transfer from other program or university.
