The City wants to help families place title (the deed) with the current owners, so any relatives living in the home can claim the homestead exemption for property taxes, add the right names to a mortgage and insurance policy, qualify for home repair programs or FEMA help and pay back taxes.
If you are related by blood or marriage to the deceased owner OR the owner named you as an heir in the owner’s Last Will and Testament; the court can add your name as a property owner in a probate case. Families can also avoid future title problems by planning ahead.
If you have family property without clear title, Jacksonville Area Legal Aid ("JALA") and the Local Initiatives Support Program ("LISC") may be able to help.
Please complete the form below or call (904) 356-8371, ext. 401 for Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA) or (904) 351-0008 for LISC Jacksonville to apply or inquire regarding help.
