2017 AAJ Conference Travel Scholarships

2023 AAJ Conference Scholarship

The AAJ will award up to two (2) Scholarships to the November 2023 AAJ Conference to qualified AAJ Emerging Professionals. Scholarship recipients will receive complimentary conference registration and reimbursement up to $1,000 for travel and lodging. Successful recipients will be paired with an AAJ NextGen mentor during the conference, acknowledged at the JFR awards ceremony, and featured in the conference program.
Eligibility

Any individual who meets the criteria as an AAJ Emerging Professional* is invited to apply.(*AAJ Emerging Professionals are defined as entry level professionals, architects, architectural associates or planners with less than 10 years’ experience working in the justice architecture sector.)
Recipient Responsibilities

In return for receiving the scholarship, each recipient will be responsible for the following:
- Submit an essay (no more than 500 words) for publication on the AIA AAJ webpage. Essays should address:
  1) Overall impression of the conference
  2) Highlights of a particularly interesting session or tour
  3) Knowledge gained that can be applied to your work in justice architecture
- Participate in an AAJ initiative (refer to Academy of Architecture for Justice - AIA KnowledgeNet webpage for descriptions) in one of the following ways:
  1) Choose an ongoing AAJ Initiative of interest in which to actively participate, or,
  2) Develop a new AAJ initiative proposal for presentation to the AAJ Leadership Group
Application deadline:
11:59p ET September 25, 2023. Successful applicant(s) will be notified no later than October 6, 2023. Recipients will be responsible for making their own travel and lodging arrangements and eligible expenses up to $1000 will be reimbursed by AIA.

Submission Requirements:
- Letter of interest introducing yourself and describing why you would like to receive a conference scholarship (no more than 200 words)
- Current one-page resume
- Letter of recommendation from an AIA, Associate AIA, International Associate AIA Member or supervisor
