  • The Vice President serves as an executive officer of the Board of Directors and automatically serves a four (4)-year term during which time he or she holds the positions of Vice President, President-Elect, President and Immediate Past President.

    Candidates must be able to travel to and attend four (4) annual meetings of the Board of Directors, as well as monthly executive committee meetings, among other duties. The position requires a flexible schedule which includes the ability to take time off from one’s district or LEA. To be considered for the position, a candidate also must meet the following criteria:

    • Must be a CASBO orgzanizational member or Honorary Life Member in good standing for a minimum of five (5) consecutive years;

    • Criteria for Vice President must include, current or past State Director, current or past Section President or current or past Legislative Committee Chair.

    • Must not be retired.

    Interested candidates must complete and submit this application by Monday, January 5, 2026. CASBO will forward the completed applications to the Executive Committee who will interview the candidates and refer them to the Board of Directors for approval and selection.

  • 1. Leadership Development and Succession Planning

    • Mentorship and Learning: Actively engages in learning from the current President and other board members, understanding the organization's strategic goals, governance processes, and leadership challenges.

     • Succession Planning: Works closely with the President to understand the succession plan, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in leadership.

     • Leadership Readiness: Demonstrates growing leadership capabilities, including the ability to inspire, influence, and guide board members in strategic decision-making.

  • 2. Strategic Vision and Alignment

    • Strategic Understanding: Deepens their understanding of the organization's long-term vision, goals, and strategic priorities.

     • Continuity of Strategy: Ensures that their actions and decisions as Vice President align with the organization’s strategic plan, preparing to carry forward these initiatives when they assume the Chairman role.

     • Forward Planning: Engages in scenario planning and strategic foresight to anticipate future challenges and opportunities that the organization may face.

    • Governance Familiarity: Gains a comprehensive understanding of governance best practices, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.

    • Ethical Leadership: Upholds and promotes ethical behavior within the board, ensuring transparency and accountability in decision-making.

    • Board Dynamics: Develop strong relationships with board members and stakeholders, understanding the dynamics and ensuring effective collaboration.
