AAHA Foster Application Logo
  • Thank you for your interest in fostering a animal for Arkansans Assisting Homeless Animals (AAHA).  You will experience the joy of knowing that thanks to YOU, an animal facing euthanasia will be given a second chance at life.  AAHA does not expect you to furnish any medical services to a foster animal.  If necessary, we'll provide the food, too!  We do ask that you help us evaluate the foster animals personality and habits.  There may be some adjustment time before your pet and the foster settle in to their new routine but we will provide any assistance we can to help you adjust to your new temporary resident.

(AGREEMENT WILL BE SIGNED & COMPLETED DURING HOME VISIT).

  • A.A.H.A. FOSTER FAMILY AGREEMENT

Arkansans Assisting Homeless Animals (A.A.H.A.) considers our Foster Families to be essential to the welfare and proper placement of our foster animals and wishes the experience to be enjoyable and free from misunderstandings.  The purpose of foster care is to allow a dog, cat, etc. to live in a home environment while awaiting permanent placement.  This permits the Foster Family to evaluate the foster animal, and to work with the foster animal to reincorporate him or her back into a home environment.  The exposure the foster animal gets from being treated as "one of the family" (walks, outings, etc...) often speeds up the adoption process.  Please note that we have the following guidelines:

    • The Foster Family will follow all relevant procedures and guidelines of AAHA regarding the foster animal placed in the foster home and will not make decisions or take actions regarding the foster animal's veterinary care or placement without prior approval from AAHA.
    • The Foster Family will provide the foster animal with humane care and maintain the foster animal in accordance with all current state, county and municipal laws and ordinances while the foster animal resides with the Foster Family.
    • The Foster Family will provide the foster animal with necessary exercise and will not keep the foster animal chained or restrained.  AAHA foster animals will not be kept as "outside only" foster animals.  NPOTG puppies will NOT be allowed outdoors until they are 10 days past their second vaccine.
    • The Foster Family agrees to provide the foster animal with adequate food, water, shelter, affection, socialization, exercise, medical assistance, and to strive to increase the adoptability of the foster animal.  If assistance with food is needed, AAHA will provide food upon request.  FOOD MUST BE 3 STARS OR BETTER ON DOG FOOD ADVISOR.
    • If the foster animal cannot be kept by the Foster Family, the Foster Family shall notify AAHA immediately.  The foster animal SHALL NOT BE SOLD, ABANDONED, RELINQUISHED TO A SHELTER OR POUND OR ANY THIRD PARTY.  AAHA WILL SEEK LEGAL ACTION IF THE FOSTER DOG IS ABANDONED OR LEFT WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN A REPRESENTATIVE OF AAHA.  The Foster Family must also understand that if they opt out of fostering the animal, it takes time to find an ADEQUATE replacement Foster Family and the animal must remain in the current Foster Family care until a replacement is found.
    • THE FOSTER FAMILY UNDERSTANDS THAT AAHA AND ITS REPRESENTATIVES HAVE LIMITED INFORMATION REGARDING THE TEMPERAMENT OF THE FOSTER ANIMAL OR ITS HABITS.  THE FOSTER FAMILY WILL TAKE ALL REASONABLE PRECAUTIONS (THROUGH THE USE OF CRATES, SLIP LEADS, SUPERVISION AND COMMON SENSE) TO ENSURE THE FOSTER ANIMAL DOES NOT RUN LOOSE, BECOME A NUISANCE, DESTROY PROPERTY, INJURE OR BE INJURED BY ANOTHER ANIMAL OR INJURE OR BE INJURED BY ANY PERSON.
    • The foster animal is and shall remain the property of AAHA and may be removed by AAHA from the Foster Family at any time and without prior notice.  Foster family MUST return the animal and all AAHA supplies within 24 hours of request by an AAHA board member.  No exceptions!
    • The Foster Family agrees to be courteous, helpful and honest to potential adopters.
    • The Foster Family agrees that NO MEET AND GREETS will be performed without an approved application on file AND prior approval from an AAHA representative (Brandy Buie).  This includes potential adopters coming to your home, meeting at an arranged location, etc.  MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT ALLOWED WITHOUT PRIOR CONSENT!!
    • In the event the Foster Family wishes to permanently adopt a foster animal after the Foster Family has been with our team for 6 MONTHS, an AAHA Adoption Contract must be submitted to AAHA along with the requested adoption fee.  Foster Families are NOT given preference over an outside applicant.  AAHA makes ALL decisions regarding the placement of the foster animal.  FOSTER ANIMALS CANNOT BE ADOPTED BY THE FOSTER FAMILY PRIOR TO A FOSTER PERIOD OF 6 MONTHS!!
    • The Foster Family should ensure that all their personal pets are up to date on their vaccinations (including and without limitation Bordetella, distemper/parvo, rabies), on a regime of heartworm prevention, and sterilized prior to bringing the foster animal into their home.
    • The Foster Family agrees to participate in FOSTER PLAY DATE at least ONCE A MONTH in Cabot at the Cabot Animal Shelter Agility Yard on Sundays from noon-2pm unless you are fostering a “banned breed”.  This time allows our foster animals to become socialized with other animals and people in a contained environment.
    • The Foster Family agrees that they will be fully responsible for any injury/death that occurs from taking the foster animal to a public dog park.
  • Initial that you have read and fully understand the above information:
