Mission Statement: Historic Smithfield is having this event to educate people on the rich history associated with the Smithfield Plantation, as well as provide the community with a fun, healthy, and unique experience.
About the Event: The 5K will take place along the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course, which is Virginia Tech's cross country track. Participants will run/walk past many historical sites and places that are saturated with history of the Prestons, as well as the settlement of southwestern Virginia, and beyond. During the event there will be interpreters at many of the different locations so that participants will get a genuine feel of what life would have been like at Historic Smithfield in 1776. After the 5K, participants will be provided with a meal and there will be an award ceremony for those who placed in their respective age groups. At 3pm we will have the 1776 adventure run, which will take particpants to a multitude of historical locations on Smithfield's property that the 5K wasn't able to go by, as well as provide particpants with a more leisurely view of Historic Smithfield. In addition, the Smithfield house will be open the entirety of the event for people to tour if they so wish. All of these activities are included in the registration fees.
