Art e(s)t Essai
Residency Program, Spring 2017
DEADLINE: March 30th, 2017
The Art e(s)t Essai Residency for Visual Artists is a new residency program that is based in Kreutzberg, Berlin, Germany, that seeks to support resident artists as they explore what it means to professionalize their practice within a European context. We offer a five weeks residency that provides studio and living as well as community through which to reflect and engage one’s work. We accept applications from both emerging, mid-career and established artists working in all media, and especially those who emphasize social practice, community engagement or socially-engaged works.
A residency means not only having a rehearsal space, but also technical equipment, technical assistance, as well as financial help for the needed material and a 1200 Euro grant plus travel and accommodation costs. There is also the possibility to apply with larger groups - in this case the fee has to be shared between the participants.
The Art e(s)t Essai Residency for Visual Artists aims to strengthen international relations in the field of culture and art, promote contemporary art and support contemporary art projects. Artists working in different media are invited to participate - photography, video art, performance, installation, easel painting and graphics, sculpture, public-art and landscape projects.
The Five Week Spring Session is designed for artists who are searching for a supportive atmosphere to both push their work further and gain professional development skills while doing so. A vivacious studio practice forms the heart of the program and working in community with an international, multigenerational group of resident artists is its soul.
The dynamic programming offers one-on-one discussions with ten international artists and curators, multiple exhibitions, work reviews, studio visits, a curatorial marathon and group meals. All the while, this programming promotes and encourages artist community engagement to our resident artists. Paris clearly shapes the program and is the springboard naturally flowing into the greater European art scene. The residents are offered the opportunity to present their work in three exhibitions. The spring session encourages each resident artist to explore their own creative potential within a supportive atmosphere.
