    Community-Engagement Governance™

It has become increasingly clear to many in the sector that the traditional governance models are inadequate to effectively respond to the challenges faced by many nonprofits and their communities.  Yet most nonprofits and capacity builders continue to rely on traditional governance models, hoping that more training or increased performance will improve the way their organizations are governed, only to realize that the underlying problems remain. In response the need for new approaches to governance, a national network of practioners through the national Alliance for Nonprofit Management and led by consultant, Judy Freiwirth, Psy.D., has developed a new governance framework, Community-Engagement Governance™.

This framework, based on action research findings, is an innovative and effective approach that includes an organization’s stakeholders in key governance decisions for an organization’s future.  It is a cutting-edge approach in which governance responsibility is shared across the organizational system among the key sectors of an organization, including its constituents and community, staff and board to ensure community impact and organizational sustainability. Mary Stelletello, a member of the Engaged Governance Affinity Group of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management will provide an overview of the action research findings to date, answer questions and discuss opportunities for any organizations to participate in the action research process.

After the educational part of the program, networking will continue with Mary Stelletello, BoardStar, and your fellow professional peers and nonprofit leaders.
