Goal: To establish a process for providing financial assistance to Committee members and others for attendance of the Equal Justice Conference (EJC).
Preferences:
•To fund one active member of the LSP committee each year.
•To assist others, who without financial assistance would not or could not attend the conference, where their attendance would further the goals of the Committee.
Process:
1. After the budget line item for the EJC has been established, the Committee will determine the number and amount of any stipend to be awarded for the next EJC.
2. The Committee will then inform the ATJ and civil legal service community that applications for EJC stipend(s) are being accepted.
3. Applications must be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the EJC registration deadline.
4. The Committee will select the recipient(s) before the registration deadline and inform the recipient(s) of the stipend(s).
The stipend/reimbursement process follows that the attendee register and pay for the conference themselves, and then submit documentation of their attendance after the conference in order to receive the stipend.
Stipend Criteria/Considerations (in order of preference):
•Involvement with the Committee
•Involvement in other organizations or endeavors focusing on the provision of civil legal services for people living in poverty
•Benefit to the Committee and/or civil legal services from the individual's attendance at the EJC
•The financial resources available to the applicant for attendance
