2024 COVINGTON UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
VBS LEADER COVENANT
Jesus was concerned about the wellbeing of all people. He ministered to children, people with disabilities, the elderly, and women and men in vulnerable situations and so calls us to protect, care for, and minister to them as well.
We are committed to cultivating a proactive, welcoming, and safe environment, where our church culture, guided by our faith, encourages open discussion of topics related to fostering that safe and welcoming environment.
Jesus calls all of us—members and believers—to a shared responsibility for this caring and protective ministry.
Therefore, for the safety and protection of our children, I make the following commitments during VBS (July 7-10, 2024):
- I will HELP ensure that all participants will have a positive experience of God’s love, feel welcomed, and grow in Christian faith.
- I will ACT as a positive role model for the children.
- I will SPEAK with appropriate language.
- I will ENGAGE children in music, crafts, recreation, and Bible study.
- I will ABIDE by the church policy that at no time should one leader and one child ever be together in a closed room.
- I will LIMIT the use of my phone.
- I WILL NOT post any VBS photos electronically to my social media accounts without permission.
- If I witness or experience anything that raises safety concerns for me, I will SPEAK with Margie Sturm, Deb McIntyre, Kathy Scott, Brenda Noble or Janet Edwards.
- I UNDERSTAND that I am an important part of making this week a success!
For the safety and protection of our children, I commit to abide by these guidelines.
