My studio offers weekly private flute lessons that vary in length depending on the age, experience, and needs of each student. 30, 45, and 60 minute lessons are available.
Teaching Philosophy:
My primary goal is to share and foster a love of music through playing the flute and piccolo. Private lessons allow students to move at their own pace, which is generally faster than what is possible in band classes at school. This means that students can start the school year with a distinct advantage in their ensembles, often assuming leadership roles in class. My students successfully audition into our local Junior Orchestra and Youth Symphony, receive high ratings at Solo and Ensemble competitions, and are able to win scholarships to help fund their college educations. My intent is to help all of my students reach or surpass the level of playing necessary to achieve their individual musical goals, ultimately resulting in a certain level of independence. This educational process is rich and rewarding.
Tuition for the school year
1. 30 minute lesson- $20 per lesson, or $80 per month
2. 45 minute lesson-$30 per lesson, or $120 per month
3. 60 minute lesson- $40 per lesson, or $160 per month
Longer lesson slots and quarterly payments schedules are also possible, and will be offered on a case by case basis.
Tuition is due at the beginning of the month, unless we have made different arrangements to accommodate family finances, pay schedules, etc.
Lessons can be rescheduled according to my availability and the needs of the student.
One month's notice is required when a student wishes to stop taking lessons.
Materials:
A variety of method books, warm-up books, etude books, and repertoire will be needed for individual lessons. Please be ready to purchase new music as it is needed. A metronome is also a valuable tool for helping to develop and internal sense of pulse, and also tempo consistency.
Lesson Preperation:
1. 20-30 minutes of practice each day for begninners
2. 30-45 minutes of practice each day for intermediate players
3. 60 or more minutes of practice each day for advanced players
* Please bring required materials to your lessons.
Performance Opportunities:
We will have 1-2 solo recitals over the course of the school year, in addition to any school and outside performances. All students are incouraged to participate, since performance is an important part of being a developing musician. Working through performanc anxiety results in the development of confidence and the ability to function under pressure, so important in a variety of life areas.
