I chose to pick up the violin in 5th grade after Mrs. Ross, the local middle school orchestra director, brought a number of string instruments to my music class. I picked up a violin and knew from that moment that violin was my calling.
Through middle and high school, I studied privately under Gwendolyn Taylor, who currently performs with the Tacoma Symphony and the Northwest Sinfonietta. Following high school, I studied violin at Western Washington University under Walter Schwede (former associate concertmaster of the Seattle Symphony and concertmaster of the Pacific Northwest Ballet) where I was a member of the Scholarship String Quartet from 2014-2017 and often shared the role of concertmaster in the University Symphony Orchestra and other groups, such as the pit orchestra of the Western Summer Theatre.
Through high school, I participated in the Kitsap Youth Summer Symphony as a counselor where I taught violin and led sectionals. I also played in the Bremerton Youth Symphony where I frequently held sectionals. In University, I was the "go-to" person when my peers were struggling with their parts-- I sometimes juggled 10 classes a quarter and still made time to help. While in Bellingham, I also taught briefly with Evergreen Music School and held a small studio there. My youngest student was 5 years old, with English as their second language, and my oldest student was 16 and learning viola. I have a basic understanding of French and have experience with apps that translate in real time.
First 30 minute lesson is free-- I'm also willing to meet prior to this to discuss materials or to help get the student fitted for an instrument.
Subsequent lesson rates are as follows:
30 minute lesson @ $30 ($120/month)
60 minute lesson @ $45 ($180/month)
Tuition is due at the first lesson of each month. Accommodations can be made if the need is communicated in advance.
Lesson cancellations must be made more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled lesson. One month's notice is required if a student no longer wishes to continue with lessons.
