Show Rules and Guidelines
Sculpture entries must comply with the following guidelines:
1. Entry criteria include: Site-specific approach, subject matter suitable for general public, safety issues, artist's ability to carry out the proposal submitted and to return the site to its original condition, the ability of the piece to withstand outdoor conditions, artist's connection to North Shore/ Merrimack Valley region, and the availability of sites.
The State Park has set a maximum of 50 for sculptures that can be exhibited. After we have received 50 complete, viable applications, we will stop accepting applications. So don't wait until the last minute! (Applications beyond 50 will be added to a wait list in case a spot opens)
2. Artists are responsible for complete transportation, installation and removal of their work; site must be restored to original condition. Sites are freely open to the public, unsupervised, at all times. Thus, sponsors of this event cannot provide safety or protection of works, and are not insured to cover any damage or theft of artists' work.
3. The artists are responsible for the maintenance of their work if needed. If, upon determination by the Park Staff, a work has substantially changed or degraded too much from the proposal, or if the work is considered to be a hazard to the public, the artist will be asked to remove the work.
4. No live trees may be cut. No nails, staples etc. may be put in trees. No paint on trees. No digging of holes in the ground, except small holes for anchoring. Park Staff must approve any clearing of brush. Anyone needing vehicle access to their site must give one-week prior notice to Event Coordinator Bert Snow or Park Staff.
5. Sculpture must be removed, and each artist must restore their site to its original condition on September 29.
6. No awards are available to artists for this event: The show is run on a tiny budget, supported by funds from Local Cultural Councils as part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council. A digital catalog will be produced.
7. Artists are required to give 15% of the sale price of a sculpture that is sold at this event, as seed money, to the contributing Local Cultural Councils to be divided proportionate to their funding.
8. Submission of a proposal / application indicates acceptance of the above conditions.
