• Ja`Nae Goad Scholarship

  • The Ja’Nae Goad Memorial Golf scholarship was established in 1999.  This award is given to a graduating senior from a Wheeler County high school who has participated in high school golf or multiple sports, and who exhibits good citizenship.

Ja’Nae Goad was a senior at Fort Elliott High School at the time of her fatal car wreck.  The golf season had just begun and expectations were high for a return trip to the state golf tournament in Austin.  She had qualified for the 1998 state tournament as an individual and placed in the top 15.

Ja’Nae was an all around athlete competing at the regional level in cross country, track, volleyball, and golf.  She was named most valuable player in the basketball district and helped her team to the playoffs yearly.  She had been nominated to play in the Golden Spread All Star basketball game following her senior season.  For two years she played on the baseball team.  In addition to interscholastic sports, she was a four year member of the cheerleading squad and president of the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  She enjoyed softball, snow skiing and fishing and was a Red Cross certified lifeguard.

This scholarship has been established to honor Ja’Nae’s memory.  It is the desire of the scholarship committee to choose recipients who share some of the qualities that Ja’Nae possessed.

Funding for this scholarship has been made available through the annual Ja’Nae Goad Memorial Golf Tournament.  For information concerning this annual event you may contact Bobby Jennings at 826-3153 in Wheeler.
