  • A Little More Information about the 2013 Rochester ETHIE Award

Deadline for Entry: May 15, 2013
  • The ETHIE is an annual program that recognizes the Rochester region’s organizations that exemplify high standards of ethical behavior in their everyday business practices and in response to crises or challenges.

The ETHIE is presented by the Rochester Area Business Ethics Foundation; it has grown to be one the premier awards of the region and is an invaluable tool to recognize and promote companies doing things the "right way". RABEF established the ETHIE Award in 2003 and to date, nearly 100 companies have engaged in the application process leading to 47 finalists and 26 companies receiving the award.

The ETHIE is modeled on the American Business Ethics Award, which was founded in 1994 by the National Society of Financial Service Professionals. In fact, several of Rochester’s award recipients have gone on to participate and win national recognition in the ABEA competition.

Any public or privately owned organization may enter this award program, and beginning in 2013, non-profits are eligible. The competing organizations will be judged in one of three categories based on their number of employees:

    • Large (more than 150 employees)
    • Midsized (51-150 employees)
    • Small (50 or fewer employees, but at least five full-time employees)

Not eligible to compete are financial service companies, which are defined as a bank or an accounting, law, insurance, brokerage, investment or financial planning firm.

To nominate an organization to enter the 2013 ETHIE, please complete the online questionnaire that follows. Once nominated, it is up to the organization to decide to enter, which involves filling out a questionnaire that describes and documents its commitment to good business ethics.

A system of support to organizations wishing to apply is available to provide guidance in the development of an ethics policy and an application for the ETHIE Award.

For any questions or clarifications on this process, contact the ETHIE Award Entry Committee at the RABEF offices (585) 383-1060 or contact Entry Committee Chair Kevin Stone at (585) 242-1670 or visit the RABEF website www.rochesterbusinessethics.com.
