I. General Guidelines:
All awards are made by the Financial Planning Office of WVWC in conjunction with Creative and Performing Arts Faculty and based upon a process of auditions.
The criteria for awarding Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships include but are not limited to: demonstrated creative ability and student’s perceived potential to fit into and contribute to the Art Department.
II. Student’s Responsibilities:
Scholarship recipients are expected to participate as recommended by the Creative Arts faculty. Students are also obligated to maintain a 2.0 GPA and remain in good standing with the college. Generally, theatre and dance students are expected to audition and participate as cast or in technical roles as specified by semester. Music students are placed into ensembles where competent and regular participation is expected. Art/Graphic design students are required to major or minor and stay in good standing within the department. Creative writing and literature award recipients must major or minor in English or complete one writing course per year, as well as maintain a 2.5 GPA. Specific guidelines from departments will be distributed later along with information about departmental meetings and obligations later in the year. III. Scholarship Renewal:
The Creative Arts Scholarship is renewed on an annual basis. Any request to extend the life of the scholarship past four years must be made in writing to the Office of Financial Aid. Creative Arts faculty only make a recommendation, not the final decision on an extension appeal.
IV. Non-renewal or Loss of Scholarship:
All awards will be evaluated every semester by the creative arts faculty. Students failing to participate or complete curriculum as required may forfeit their awards.
V. Appeals process:
A student can appeal any decision of the Creative Arts Faculty to the Vice President for Enrollment.
