Houston Nets Rules and Policies
All players and parents who are members of Houston Nets understand playing basketball demands tremendous commitment and dedication to the game and their team. Playing for the Houston Nets is a privilege not a right. As Houston Nets players and parents, we understand and agree to follow the policies:
Sportsmanship
It is the obligation of the coaches, players and parents to practice the highest principles of sportsmanship and to observe the ethics of competition. Good sportsmanship is defined as qualities of behavior, which are characterized by courtesy and genuine concern for others. The display of good sportsmanship is a statement of the individual's understanding and commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity. The Houston Nets have a zero tolerance for disrespect to coaches, mentors, players or parents.
Player Responsibilities
1. All players will treat teammates, coaches, parents, officials and opponents with dignity and respect. Depending on the severity of the situation a player may be suspended from a game, or be dismissed from the team.
2. All players will provide maximum effort in practice and games.
3. Players/parents that cannot make practices/games are responsible for informing the coach through a phone call, text, or email at the earliest possible time. When players miss practices and/or games, playing time in future games may be affected.
4. Unexcused absences are absences in which the coach was not informed in the manner described above, and/or the reason for the absence is not satisfactory. Unexcused absences from practices and/or games will result in disciplinary action which may include the player losing their spot on the team.
5. Players are to be on time for all practices and games. Tardiness may affect playing time in games. Players are expected to be at games 45 minutes prior to start time and at practices at least 5 minutes before the start of practice.
Parent Responsibility
1. Parents will treat players, coaches, opponents, and officials with respect and dignity.
2. Coaching basketball is to be done only by coaches on staff. Parents agree to refrain from coaching or directing their child or other players during all games and practices.
3. Parents will discuss player and/or team concerns and problems directly with the Head Coach or Program Director. These discussions will not take place right before or after a game. A meeting may be scheduled with advanced notice of at least one week.
4. Parents will participate in the raising of monies needed (fundraising) to sustain the needs of the basketball program.
5. Parents are responsible for reinforcing and communicating the Player Responsibilities to their youth athlete.
Refund Policy
If a player is released from the team due to failure to comply with any rules outlined in this document they are not entitled to, nor will receive a refund of dues, fees, or monies paid toward this program. If a player decides to quit/leave the team no dues or fees paid will be refunded.
Uniform Policy
You are responsible for the upkeep of the uniform. To maintain the quality and appearance of the jerseys we recommend uniforms be washed in cold water and hang-dry instead of machine dry. If uniforms are damaged, lost, or stolen while in your possession you are responsible for replacement.
