The Daily Tar Heel will turn 127 years old on Feb. 23, 2020, and we are inviting you to celebrate with us.
On the weekend of Feb. 21-23, alumni from all generations will gather in Chapel Hill to celebrate our beloved student newspaper's past and help plan for a sustainable future.
We'll honor award-winning journalist, author and NC Media and Journalism Hall of Fame member Rochelle Riley as the recipient of this year's Distinguished Alumni Award.
Details to come, but here's a quick overview of the schedule:
2 p.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21
: an open house and tour of the DTH newsroom. DTH alumni can volunteer to review resumes, clips and portfolios of current students as well as receive a professional headshot from the 1893 Brand Studio. Birthday cake will be served!
5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21:
Happy hour at Linda's Bar.
9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22:
Morning panel discussions about the current state of the DTH, elections and the future of local news. These panels will take place at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media, in the Freedom Forum Conference Room.
6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22:
A keynote speech featuring Riley and dinner party at the Hampton Inn ballroom in Carrboro. We'll also recognize people from classes celebrating milestone reunion years (such as the classes of 2015, 2010, 2005, 2000, 1995, 1985, 1980, 1975, 1970, 1965 and so on).
