The following is a list of Home Group Leader (HGL) expectations. Please read them carefully before completing the rest of the application form.
- be present for all of the pre-event leader training and the event itself (Pre-event starts the evening before the retreat, on Friday, Feb 14th at 7pm and the retreat continues until Monday, Feb 17th at about 2pm)
- work in a leadership role – typically in a team of two people
- use time at pre-event to plan home group activities with your HGL partner
- help to welcome people, assist in games, and show participants to the sleeping spaces on the first night
- model behaviour that is appropriate for youth events (if unsure, please ask)
- be with your home group at all home group times, except in case of emergency (please consult with Home Group Leader Leader(s) in this case)
- ensure your home group members are with you during home group time
- work as a team with your HGL partner and with other leaders (practice good communication)
- build community both with those in your home group and with others at the event
- participate in all activities with willingness, enthusiasm and a spirit of fun and inclusion
- spend time with participants outside of home group time (e.g. Meals)
- sleep in the same area as the participants and help keep order in the sleeping spaces
- take responsibility for knowing where home group members are during activities, including on outings
- organize and supervise home group members during set-up and clean-up for meals
- be open to receiving constructive feedback from Home Group Leader Leaders (those in charge of your training) and try to make improvements while you still have a chance to put them into practice
- once accepted, apply for record checks as required. More info will come with your acceptance. We pay for any record checks we require.
If you have not previously provided us with references, please find 3 people who are willing to be references for you!
1. a minister or church leader (or, if you do not have a strong church connection – pick someone else and list their relationship to you)
2. A teacher, coach or employer
3. A friend
