The Biomedical Interventions Institute is a one day institute (April 2, 2020) from 8am - 5pm which will occur prior to the National Latinx Conference on HIV/HCV/SUD. The institute will be located at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
PrEP is a powerful HIV prevention tool. These last few years we have rushed to meet the needs of our communities and have created PrEP programs to address the gaps in our services. Our intention with this Institute is to focus on PrEP implementation and infrastructures to ensure that our attendees effectively incorporate their PrEP services in their work.
We invite agencies that want to start a PrEP program in their organization, agencies who have recently implemented their program and would like additional guidance, and agencies with a PrEP program that would like an opportunity to reevaluate their current program and learn from other PrEP programs. The institute will address the need of the intersectionality of biomedical interventions and gender affirming care, addressing implicit biases and discussing the impact of immigrant access to and continual need of biomedical prevention tools in the case of repatriation. This will provide a safe environment for providers and navigators to discuss the cultural impacts their organization may face and identify ways to navigate through these emerging topics of awareness. [There will be a max of 30 participants - no more than 3 staff from the same organization will be allowed.]
Agencies will be required to introduce themselves with a presentation on their PrEP programs and discuss their barriers and successes. Our facilitators will underscore the lessons learned from the presentations and will press the agencies to think about what their ideal PrEP program would look like. With their guidance, attendees will brainstorm with their colleagues and report back what their ideal programs would look like and discuss potential barriers and areas of strengths.
Participants in this institute will additionally commit to continuing the dialogue started in this session. Technical Assistance will be provided post-Institute and attendees will be encouraged to stay accountable by participating in a check-in with all 30 participants two months after the conference to discuss the PrEP programs.
In order to participate in this institute, you need to fill out an application that will be reviewed by the institute trainers. Selected nominees will be notified on or before March 20, 2020.
