During an electrical assessment, various aspects of the electrical installation are typically tested to ensure safety and compliance with regulated standards. Here's a breakdown of what is and isn't usually tested:

What is tested during an electrical assessment:

Distribution Boards & Sub-Distribution Boards: Examination of main and secondary electrical panels.
Correct Rating of Devices: Ensuring the correct voltage ratings are applied to electrical devices.
Plug Sockets and Light Points: Testing functionality and safety of outlets and lighting fixtures.
Swimming Pool / Jacuzzi Sub-Distribution Boards: Inspecting electrical installations associated with pools or Jacuzzis.
Outside Building Electrical Installations: Checking wiring and systems located outdoors.

What is NOT tested during an electrical assessment:

Solar Installations: Typically excluded from standard electrical assessments.
Inverter / Battery Installations: These aspects are not usually included in the assessment unless specifically requested or separately assessed. (This can be done at an extra charge)

This breakdown helps clarify the areas that are examined and those that are not generally included in a standard electrical assessment, such as solar setups or inverter/battery installations, which might require specialized assessments or separate checks.

    Cost Breakdown:

✅ a) Full Electrical Compliance Assessment
Charges range from R2 200.00 to R6 000.00 (VAT inclusive)
Price varies based on factors such as:
    • Quantity of Distribution Boards (DBs)
    • Number of bedrooms
    • Assessment time required
    • Total square meters of the unit

    • Availability of the Initial COC

Important: If there is no existing original COC, we must issue an initial COC, which requires a full, detailed compliance assessment to ensure legal and safety requirements are met.
This process is more thorough and therefore costs more than issuing a supplementary COC (which is only possible if an original COC is already available).

    b) Travel Charges:

Travel beyond a 30km radius from the Grove Mall, Lynnwood Road incurs a fee of R6.50 per kilometer (excluding VAT).
After assessment, you'll receive a repair quotation before any repairs are scheduled.

    Certificate of Compliance (COC):

COC is issued upon completion of repairs.
Once your account is settled, the COC is emailed to you.

    Important Note:

Certificates are issued electronically; no hardcopies are provided.

    Important Notes to Consider:

Inspection Hours: Inspections happen between 8 am and 5 pm on weekdays. We can accommodate after-hours and weekend inspections upon request, but these might incur additional charges.
During Inspection: All electricity will be turned on and off periodically for testing purposes.
Client Responsibilities: SRE isn't liable for any damage to machines, computers, servers, etc., left switched on during the inspection.
Electrical Installations: To meet Compliance Certification standards, circuit breakers might trip due to the system attempting to handle a greater electrical load. This might not be due to our work but could be from past incorrect installations. If the inspection reveals the cause of tripping isn't due to our work, a call-out fee will be charged for further investigation. Any repair request may incur additional charges for labor and materials.
Appliance Caution: We make efforts to reconnect appliances like fridges or freezers after testing, but it's advisable for clients to double-check these appliances after any electrical work to prevent damage to their contents. SRE cannot be held responsible for damage to the contents.

    1.       SRE follows the standards as set out by Government (SANS 10142-B)  2.       On completion of initial inspection a quote will be sent for the repair (if required). It should be noted that the client will be liable for the inspection fee irrespective if the client requires the repairs to be done or not. 3.       Should the rectification work required be reasonably simple and cost less than R500.00 (excl. VAT) the repair work will be carried out immediately without notifying the client. The client will however be liable for the cost, up to a maximum amount of R500.00 (Excl. VAT) for the rectification work. 4.       A report with a cost to rectify any electrical work will be submitted to client for approval (if required). 5.       On acceptance of quote for electrical work to be done, as well as proof of payment of initial inspection, repair will be booked. 6.       Based on findings during the inspection a deposit might be payable before any work is done. 7.       After the rectification work has been carried out, the certificate (COC) will only be handed over after full  payment is received from the client 8.       For full T&C’s visit www.sparkriteelectrical.co.za Please complete the following questions.

    i.            Inspection is done during normal work hours 8am – 5pm Monday – Friday. After hours and weekends can be arranged on request but might have additional charges. ii.            During inspection ALL electricity is switched on and off periodically.        iii.            SRE is not responsible for any damage to machines, computers, servers etc. that is not switched off during the inspection by client.     iv.            In order to comply with Compliance Certification minimum standards are adhered to. This could result in circuit breakers tripping as the circuit is attempting to draw a greater electrical load than it is intended to carry. This is not as a result of poor workmanship from SRE, but could be as a result of previous incorrect equipment being installed. In the event that the client requests an inspection due to the circuit breaker tripping and it is found that the circuit breaker is tripping as a result of this and not as a result of any fault of SRE the client will be charged a normal call-out fee.   Feel free to leave us a message or ask a question in the below block.

✅ **Why does it cost more if you don’t have the original COC?** When there’s no existing certificate, we need to issue an **initial COC** — this means doing a full compliance assessment of your entire electrical installation. We carefully test and verify every part of the system to make sure it meets current safety standards. A **supplementary COC** can only be issued if there’s a valid initial certificate. (With this, we already know the original installation was compliant; we then check it’s still safe and look for any changes, additions, or damaged components.) This is usually quicker, carries less liability, and therefore costs less. That’s why the cost for an initial COC is higher — it’s a bigger, more detailed process to make sure everything in your home is fully compliant and safe. We always do our best to keep costs fair, but your safety and legal compliance come first.
