About Hobart Current
Hobart Current is a major biennial program that will nurture and showcase contemporary artists working across performance, music, film, design, visual art and literature. Find out more about Hobart Current online at hobartcurrent.com.
About the education program
5 lucky secondary-school classes will each be paired with an artist from the Hobart Current program.
The classes will embark on a series of exchanges with their assigned artist during Terms 1 and 2 in 2020.
Facilitated through Hobart Current’s online learning portal, artists and students will ‘tune in’ to shared thoughts, questions, responses and inspiration throughout the process of their respective creative projects.
The Hobart Current education program aims to:
Make contemporary artists and their processes accessible to students and teachers
Support students’ learning by exploring challenging, inspiring and contemporary ideas
Raise awareness about career pathways in the arts
Build connections between classroom learning and the Hobart Current exhibition
What to expect
Exchanges will mostly take place online through the Hobart Current learning portal. These exchanges may include both live interactions and pre-prepared materials. There will be approximately 4 exchanges.
Classes are expected to match the artist’s contributions with their own responses, submissions and creative projects.
Through this process classes will gain:
Valuable insights into how artists make work
Monthly updates on the progress of their artist’s project
New ideas for documentation of their own creative practice
Insights into how contemporary arts practice can be presented in a gallery
Exchanges will finish at the end of Term 2, 2020. Class outcomes will be collated by Hobart Current and displayed in a public showing. This is likely to be in a digital format which will be accessible online.
