Governmental Affairs Committee
Purpose: In order to ensure the economic stability of South San Luis Obispo County, the Chamber recognizes the necessity of properly balanced legislation and policies that encourage business attraction and growth. The Chamber supports a proactive approach to local legislation including research, analysis, education, and wide dissemination of proposed legislation that affects local businesses. Participation in the Governmental Affairs Committee is a great way to expand your knowledge on local issues that affect business and the economy. The committee is a place to become informed and share that information with the Chamber membership at large. The Governmental Affairs Committee will be a conduit of information via the monthly newsletter, social media, podcasts, and informational forums.
What to Expect: The Governmental Affairs Committee will hear from experts on a variety of topics affecting business. For example, the committee will hear from speakers on upcoming ballot measures. In addition to these relevant topics, the committee also receives updates from the South County city managers and representatives from the SLO County Board of Supervisors, state, and federal offices.
Commitment Level: Attend monthly meetings and engage in discussions. You may be asked to assist with State of the City, candidate forums, and Meet the Candidate events.
Marketing & Beautification Committee
The committee will meet at various South County business locations quarterly.
Purpose: The purpose of the Marketing & Beautification committee is to promote South County businesses.
What to Expect: The committee selects a SCCC Business of the Month to be recognized. This business is promoted in the newsletter, through social media channels, on Dimes Media radio stations, and honored at the monthly Chamber luncheon. At year's end these businesses are therefore nominated to be selected for South County Business of the Year. The committee is also involved with promoting local businesses through i.e. Holiday Business Showcase Decorating Contest, the Stone Soup Special Contest, Shop Small Business Saturday, and Elegant Christmas in the Village.
Commitment Level: Consider Business of the Month submissions from the public and/or nominate a business as a committee member. You may be asked to help with business contests, Small Business Saturday, and community clean-up days.
Ambassador Committee
This committee meets on the second Thursday of the month at 8 am - 8:45 am, at the Chamber office, followed by off-site ribbon cuttings. The 2020 Chairperson is Linda Vleit and Vice Chairperson Kai Lynch.
Purpose: The Ambassador Committee aids in the development of effective acquisition and retention programs designed to educate local businesses about the programs and services available through the South County Chambers of Commerce.
What to Expect: Ambassadors concentrate on the retention of existing and development of new members through an awareness program emphasizing personal contacts by Ambassadors. Ambassadors welcome new Chamber members, act as hosts and hostesses at key Chamber events, and facilitate interaction at all Chamber functions.
Commitment Level: Ambassadors attend ribbon cuttings, mixers, and solicit auction items for the SCCC Annual Dinner & Recognition Awards at the end of January. Ambassadors may be asked to help with membership drives and volunteer to set up/break down events.
Annual Dinner Planning Committee
This committee meets September - January to plan the Annual Dinner & Recognition Awards
Steering Committees
These committees meet at various times and locations. Typically, monthly.
Purpose: As a regional Chamber, we recognize the many benefits that are achieved through combined resources and a collective voice to advocate for business. Likewise, we also recognize the importance of each community retaining their individual identity. Because each business community has unique needs, local Steering Committees have developed to work on projects in their community.
What to Expect: Steering Committees make recommendations to the SCCC Board of Directors regarding events and goals for the businesses in their community and work together to see them achieved.
Commitment Level: Attend meetings. Steering Committee members may be asked to help with events or projects in their community.
