  • Welcome to the Coastal Health District's Adolescent Health and Youth Development Youth Advisory Board Application Process. I'm thrilled that you are interested in joining our organization and look forward to working with you in the near future.

  • MISSION STATEMENT

    The mission statement of (YAB) is to educate and empower youth and their families within the Coastal district to make positive choices that bring awareness and healthy behavior.

    VISION STATEMENT

    The vision of the Adolescent Health and Youth Advisory Development Board is that all youth in the Coastal Health District live healthy lifestyles.

    YAB Core Values

    We value INTEGRITY in all our dealings internal and otherwise we are committed to carrying out our mission in a trustworthy, ethical, and professional manner.

    We value RESPECT .We recognize and dignify all individuals we come in contact with trusting everyone is there with their best intentions at heart.

    Goals of Youth Advisory Board

     

    •  To provide a structure for young people to be involved in community, organization and community programs

    •  Educating the public on evolving adolescent health issues
    •  To help YAB members prepare to teach their own class(es) to a group of their peers

    •  Influencing policy and change

    •  Providing peer support

    •  Becoming better self-advocates

    •  Developing leadership skills

     

    Responsibilities of the Youth Advisory Board

     

    • Writing a monthly blog on important adolescent health topics; 
    • Assisting with development of youth focused health content
    • Building and maintaining strong connections with youth who are passionate about sex and health based learning
    • Encouraging (YAB) members to facilitate and create their own trainings of new members
    • Facilitate a discussion that allows the YAB members to set their own guidelines and rules in coordination with health department rules and regulations 

    Preparation of Meeting/ Attendance of Meeting

    • There will be at least two (2) meetings per month with mandatory attendance
      
    • Staff advisor will define where, when and in what manner the meeting will be conducted (via in person, over the phone, web cam)
      
    • Be on time and prepared when meeting starts
      
    • Ensure all meeting materials are distributed prior to or upon arrival at the YAB meeting
      
    • Bring a planner and/ or calendar to coordinate all upcoming events
    • Read all necessary material prior 
    • Attend all meetings to ensure you are up to speed on current information, events and YAB decisions to meeting

    YAB and Community /Diversity Inclusion and Involvement

    In the youth advisory board, we are committed to inclusion and diversity not only from within our youth advisory board but also from the community we serve. YAB encompasses a variety of backgrounds and prospectives. It is important that YAB is a place where all voices are heard and valued. We will persistently pursue outreach to the community via event collaboration and other various methods.
