PETITION FOR CHANGE OF RESIDENCY CLASSIFICATION

You must be eligible for the residency change one day before the semester in which you are petitioning for a change in residency status. Residency will not be changed retroactively or in the middle of the semester.
Purpose

This Petition for Change of Residency form is specifically designed for students who are seeking to change their residency status and, consequently, their assessed tuition rate. It's important to note that the residency change cannot be applied retroactively or in the middle of a semester. This form is not a financial aid form and does not guarantee eligibility for financial aid. To be considered for a change of residency, students must submit a petition and the required supporting documentation before the Drop/Add Period of the requested semester ends.

Per TCSG policy V.B.2.A, legal residence requires not only recent physical presence in Georgia but also the element of intent to reside here indefinitely. Please refer to the student catalog for additional information: https://www.westgatech.edu/admissions/tuition-and-fees/.

Required Documentation for Independent Students
1. A completed and signed change of residency petition by you, and
2. A copy of a valid Georgia Driver’s License or State ID, and
3. A minimum of two documents in your name from the approved list below and
4. A document in your name verifying your lawful presence in the United States, if not already on file with Admissions.
*Permanent residents must have a current Permanent Resident Card on file in order to receive tuition at the out-of-state or in-state rates.
Required Documentation for Dependent Students
1. A completed and signed change of residency petition by you and
2. A copy of your valid Georgia Driver's License or State ID and
3. A copy of your parent's or legal guardian's most recent Georgia 500 Tax form claiming you as a dependent and
4. A minimum of one document in your parent or legal guardian's name from the approved list below and
5. If not already on file with Admissions, a document in your name verifying your lawful presence in the United States.
Permanent residents must have a current Permanent Resident Card on file in order to receive tuition at the out-of-state or in-state rates.
Acceptable Documents for Residency Petitions
- Georgia State Income Tax Form 500 (GA500 EZ is not acceptable)
- Georgia Automobile Registration (past year and current year)
- Georgia Voter Registration*
- Georgia Driver’s License or State ID*
- Proof of ownership of primary residence in Georgia*
- Notarized letter on company letterhead indicating lease status*
- 12 months of utility bills* (example: electricity, cable, water) Mobile phone bills are not accepted.
- 12 months of bank statements*
- A copy of the court-ordered legal guardianship document and the legal guardian's most recent Georgia Income Tax 500 form showing you were claimed as a dependent.
*Indicates these items must be dated at least 12 months before the first day of the semester for which the student is petitioning his/her change of residency.
