Experience
Depending on the type of bird you're interested in, there are varying levels of experience required. In order to ensure the best possible outcome for all our adoptions, H.E.A.R.T. reserves then right to refuse any adoptions for any reason. Our goal is to match families with our wonderful birds. We will do everything possible to make the right match, but remember it's often the bird that picks the person- not the other way around! Please provide as much detail on the open-ended questions listed below.

Checklist

I understand that some birds do not come with a cage therefore I may be required to purchase a cage for the bird(s) I am interested in.

I understand the cage I have/will be buying must meet the requirements HEART has set for each species which is at minimum 1 1/2 times their wing span. I also understand I will not be approved for adoption unless I have or buy the appropriate sized cage.

I understand birds need plenty of enrichment and mental stimulation, so toys should be purchased or made regularly. Toys can be EXPENSIVE, so attention should be paid to the cost and affordability of these enrichment tools before adopting.

I understand a home walk through video will be required before the completion of any adoption. The video needs to show your main living areas(where the bird will be) and any other pets in the home. Please be sure to include the cage you plan on using as well, if you have one.

I understand that H.E.A.R.T. offers their birds a mix of pellets along with fruit and veggies/chop daily and is expensive.

I understand that if things do not work out, I have to bring the parrot or exotic bird back to the rescue or contact them to arrange a pick up as soon as possible. I understand that if things do not work out I am NOT allowed to re-home, sell, trade or give away the bird that has been adopted from H.E.A.R.T.'s facility.
