PSJC Membership
We wish to encourage people to join our community and experience all that we have to offer. We strive to be open and inclusive as guided by our mission statement:
To sustain a Jewish community dedicated to cherishing and renewing our tradition through religious growth, prayer, good works, and a commitment to take care of one another.
The PSJC By-Laws list the following membership requirements:
1. There must be (at least) one Jewish family member in any membership unit; only adult members who are Jewish are able to vote or serve on the Board.
2. All members are required to sign the Egalitarian statement on the membership form.
Additional Membership Requirements:
Our policy is that children can only become a bar/bat mitzvah at PSJC with the appropriate learning, as determined by the Rabbi. In common with the Conservative movement, we expect each child to have attended religious school (in our Hebrew School or in a program acceptable to the Rabbi) for 5 years. Ordinarily, we expect the family to have maintained membership in our congregation for a minimum of 2 years.
Members may not purchase a burial plot or grave unless they have been members in good standing of the congregation for at least two years.
If you wish to request an exception to these policies, please speak with the Rabbi.
*We understand the requirements and policies for membership. Should we need to ask for an exception to be made for us, allowing us to purchase a grave or have a bar/bat mitzvah, we will commit to at least two years of membership; we intend to have PSJC in our future, and we look forward to a relationship with the congregation in the years to come.
