• Regulated Activity Permit Application

  • The Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands (GSGSSI) has a tiered system of Regulated Activity Permits for people who are visiting the Territory for a purpose other than tourism. These help ensure that environmental assessments are scalable and commensurate with the potential impacts of activities and appropriate safety and search and rescue provision is in place.To make sure you are completing the correct category of application form for your project, please follow the flowchart here

    In addition to the necessary permissions issued by GSGSSI, any application involving Marine Scientific Research which is to be undertaken on non-UK flagged vessels must also apply for approval through the FCDO Article 246 approvals process.   • NOTE: For material from non-CITES listed species, GSGSSI grant permission to export samples alongside permission to collect them. Permit holders are responsible for securing appropriate import licences for countries the samples travel though/to after they leave SGSSI.

  • Environmental Assessment

    Please confirm you are able to meet ALL the following environmental requirements. If you are not able to meet these requirements should e-mail permits@gov.gs as you may need to complete a different type of application form where we can gather more information about possible environmental impacts and mitigation measures.
  • Use of Remotely Operated Vehicles

  • Operation of UAV's requires a permission under the Air Navigation (Overseas Territories) Ordinance 2013. If your project involves the use if a UAV, as part of this application you must also contact Air Safety Support International at enquiries@airsafety.aero to obtain this permission.
