ABOUT THE TEAMS:
The Alberta Wake Teams represent athletes who have a desire and commitment to excel in Wake Sport disciplines. In 2020, the Provincial Teams will include wakesurf and wakeboard.
OPPORTUNITIES:
Being on the team grants many opportunities for skill development, including:
- having unique early season training opportunities with professional coaches
- the chance to become an official
- ongoing coaching and mentorship opportunities
- involvement in the wake sports community at events
- and support for attending events and training
Team members get to know other young athletes with the same love of the sport and build lasting friendships.
COMPETITIVE TEAM:
To provide training and skill development opportunities to U-18 athletes with the potential to attend and place at Nationals.
DEVELOPMENT TEAM:
To provide a training program where commitment and development are the primary focus. This program will strive to develop well-rounded athletes that become ambassadors for the sport and train to become in the top of their division by age 14-16.
SELECTION PROCESS FOR THE TEAMS:
- Open to U-18 Athletes
- Amateur athletes only - no professional athletes
- 16 possible spots, with a maximum of 5 for wakeboard
- 2020 event and team participation will be considered but an athlete with no prior competition experience may be eligible for the team.
REQUIREMENTS AS A TEAM MEMBER:
The athletes selected for the Teams, shall be responsible to submit the following:
- A training/goals development plan
- Sign an athlete agreement/code of conduct
DEVELOPMENT TEAM:
Athletes determined to meet development status by the committee will have to attend the following to receive their full training subsidy:
- Attend all 3 Wake Tour stops
COMPETITIVE TEAM:
Athletes determined to meet competitive status by the committee will have to attend the following to receive their full training subsidy:
- Attend all 3 Wake Tour stops + WSWC Nationals (an international event shall be considered in lieu of a regular wakestop).
FEES:
Fee's will be $400 - will include a team uniform and a team training clinic.
FUNDRAISING:
The Team will hold a fundraiser and sell tickets at each stop. May either be a 50/50 draw or a Board raffle draw.
SUBSIDY:
Athletes are eligible for $350 in post season subsidies that are based on their event attendance.
