  • Dear Worksite Applicant,

    Thank you for your interest in supporting our youth in Wilmington, NC this summer! The Summer Employment Program is a program of Voyage and Kids Making It (KMI) with partner Step Up Wilmington.

    Completion of this Worksite Agreement and Application is the first step in participating in the 2021 Voyage Summer Employment Program.

    In order to become a worksite, you will need to:

    ·Provide an original or PDF from your insurer of a current Certificate of General Liability Insurance naming Voyage as a certificate holder. This is a simple process that is easily accomplished by a call to your liability insurance carrier. Please have your insurer address the Certificate Holder to:

    ·Staff supervising program participants will need to schedule an orientation with Voyage prior to youth arriving for work.

  • Worksite Agreement

  • This Agreement is made between Voyage (Non-profit partner), and ________________________________________________________________ (Worksite),

    a □ public    □ non-profit   or □ private for-profit business or organization

    to provide subsidized work experience to eligible Job Seekers/ Young Adults participating in the Summer Employment Program. Under this Agreement, participants will be provided short-term paid work experience which is valuable and meaningful for both the participant and the organization/worksite.

    Paid Work Experience will be consistent with each participant’s capabilities and interests and in an occupational field or specific job in which he/she has minimal or no prior work experience. The Work Experience is expected to aid in the development of skills and work habits that will assist the participant in obtaining unsubsidized employment.

  • Term

  • This agreement will take effect during the Summer 2021 program.

  • This Worksite Agreement provides the following assurances

  • 1. There will be sufficient, meaningful work to keep SEP participants fully occupied during work hours;

    2. Work will be conducted in a safe work environment;

    3. There will be adequate full-time supervision of each SEP participant by qualified supervisors;

    4. Voyage will obtain Worker’s Compensation Insurance to cover all SEP participants engaged in work experience at a worksite;

    5. The participating Worksite will notify SEP Service Provider staff if difficulties arise which the Worksite supervisor and participant are unable to resolve. SEP staff will attempt to find a mutually satisfactory solution. The SEP staff and/or Worksite supervisor may recommend termination or transfer of the participant if the situation or problem is not resolved;

    6. There will be adequate oversight and review of each participant’s time and attendance;

    7. There will be sufficient equipment and/or materials provided to carry out assignments;

    8. This agreement will be maintained at the Worksite and available for review by federal, state, local area and SEP Service Provider representatives;

    9. All requirements and regulations governing the SEP program will be upheld;

    10. SEP participant shall be allowed to participate in employability and workplace skills instruction with the SEP Service Provider.

    11. Worksite supervisors will adhere to existing State and Federal labor standards.

    12. No SEP participant shall be employed or job opening filled (A) when any other individual is on layoff from the same or any substantially equivalent job, or (B) when the Worksite has terminated the employment of any regular employee or otherwise reduced its workforce with the intention of filling the vacancy so created by hiring a participant whose wages are subsidized under this Act;

    13. Equal Employment Opportunity and Nondiscrimination. The Worksite assures that no person on the grounds of race, creed, color, disability, national origin, sex, age, political affiliation, or beliefs, will be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity funded in whole or in part with funds made available under the Workforce Investment Act or the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

     

  • Work Activities

  • A written job or project description must be attached to this Agreement. The job or project description must include:

    1. An accurate description of the required duties and responsibilities

    2. The days and hours to be worked

    3. If the SEP participant’s job duties at the Worksite change, the Worksite agrees to notify the SEP Service Provider immediately so that this agreement may be modified.

  • Time and Attendance and Rate of Pay

    Accurate time and attendance records will be kept by the Worksite supervisor for each SEP participant. Records will reflect the time actually worked by the participant. Participants will not be paid for time not engaged in work duties, including absences, lunch periods, vacation time, or holidays. Under no circumstances should an SEP participant work over 21 hours per week at their worksite. SEP participants will be paid at the rate of $8.00 per hour. The worksite must have the participant sign timesheets and then the worksite supervisor submits timesheets to cordia.sloan@voyagewilmington.org on Fridays on a bi-weekly basis. Students receive compensation through either Bronze, Silver, or Gold partnership with the worksites. As a Bronze partner, the worksite hosts students for work experience, with wages paid for by Voyage/KMI. As a Silver partner, the worksite hosts students for work experience, with wages split between the worksite partner and Voyage/KMI. As a Gold partner, the worksite hosts students for a work experience and pays for the student's wages in full.
  • Monitoring

    It is mutually understood and agreed that the SEP Worksite may be monitored by Voyage, Kids Making It, and Step Up Wilmington. The SEP Service Provider will monitor the Worksite based on a planned schedule at least once during the term of this agreement. The Worksite supervisor will maintain current and accurate time and attendance records and will cooperate fully to provide Service Provider staff with worksite information or records as required in a timely fashion.
  • Supervision

    Worksite supervisors must be experienced in the work to be performed by the SEP participant and in supervising entry-level employees.  Worksite supervisors should encourage, and expect participants to demonstrate, good work habits, satisfactory job performance, and positive attitudes about work.

  • Worksite Information

  • Supervision

    The Summer Employment Program will provide regular case management through SEP job coaches. The worksite supervisor allows for easier communication regarding the performance of the participants in the program and serves as the main contact person for program staff.

  • Job Description for Summer Employment Program Participants

  • Safety

    The Summer Employment Program is committed to the safety of our students. Strict adherence to safety procedures are expected at all times. Participants must be provided with safety equipment where appropriate (e.g. safety glasses, work gloves, reflective vests).  Any specialized training required to enable participant to safely and satisfactorily perform on the job is the responsibility of the worksite. There are limitations on employment of minors for youth employment programs including the hours they can work and type of work they are allowed to do.  Please reference the North Carolina Department of Labor guidelines.
  • Schedule

    Please remember that Summer Employment Program will be providing students to work for a total of 17-21 hours, Tuesday-Sunday between the hours of 9am – 5pm.  This allows for access to Voyage adult supervision and assistance and for students to have Mondays to learn and refine work skills with the SEP partners and participate in career exploration panels. Please note: Job coaches will work with host site supervisors to create a weekly schedule for participants prior to worksite placements.
  • Transportation

    Your organization will not be responsible for transporting the Summer Employment Program participant to your worksite.  That is the student’s responsibility (some will have assistance provided by the Voyage and partners).

  • Liability Insurance

  • The Summer Employment participants have liability insurance and workman’s comp coverage through the collaboration of Voyage, Kids Making It, and Step Up Wilmington; however, we do require that each worksite is covered with their own liability coverage and workman’s compensation policy. Please submit a copy of your insurance certificate with this application.
