  • Carol Hill Bursary for Science and Mathematics

    A Sub Fund of the Education Foundation of Ottawa An Endowment Fund within the Ottawa Community Foundation
  • The Carol Hill Bursary for Science and Mathematics award is intended for an elementary school within the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board where additional financial support may be needed. The award is meant to provide opportunities for hands-on experiential learning in Math and Science.

  • Purpose of the Bursary:

    The Carol Hill Bursary for Science and Mathematics is meant to support one or more of the following purposes:

    • To support students in Ottawa-Carleton District School Board elementary schools with limited fundraising capacity;
    • To provide and/or enhance hands-on experiential learning opportunities in mathematics and science. This may include a limited amount of planning time for school staff to develop these activities;
    • To support the development of active learning opportunities that are sustainable and do not require the hiring of external resources.

  • Proposals can/should include the following:

    A) Activities that involve peer teaching under the supervision of teachers e.g. Grade 6's working with Grades 1 and 2; or students teaching students unique ways of solving problems (videoed and shared with others);

    B) Experiential/interactive field trips in natural environments e.g. Baxter Conservation Centre;

    C) The purchase of consumable resources to support learning activities or stations (e.g. Borax for making rubber balls, sugar and salt for investigating dissolving. Resources must be for student interactive use).
