1) The dog remains the property of Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc., and can be removed from the Foster Family by a Board Member or designee at any time and without prior notice.
2) Foster-related expenses: Updated January 17, 2024.
a) Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. will pay for foster-related expenses resulting from the dog's care, including but not limited to initial veterinary examination, necessary vaccinations, spaying/neutering, any other previously approved veterinary care testing, or treatment. Dog food is provided by the Foster Family unless prescribed. If you need help providing food, please let a Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. board member know. You may use your vet if you do not wish to use the rescue vet. However, you will only be reimbursed for the amount the rescue vet would charge.
Example: rescue vet exam $18, your vet $50. We would reimburse you $18. Not the additional $32.
(1) Shots:
(a) Rabies
(b) DHPP
(2) Heartworm check
(3) Exam
(4) Spay or Neuter (heart and lungs are checked at that time)
(5) Fecal and/or Deworming (regional coordinators have deworming medications)
(6) Microchip (please have the vet scan before microchipping to make sure the dog isn’t already chipped)
ii) Any other reasonable and necessary expenditures not resulting from carelessness, abuse, or neglect on the part of the Foster Family will be paid only with the prior approval of a Board Member. The Foster Family agrees to use Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. approved Veterinarians or provide Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. with information about the Veterinarians you would like us to consider using. The veterinarians submitted to Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. must be approved. We will use one (1) vet within a 60-mile radius.
iii) Conversely, any medical costs related to carelessness, abuse, or neglect on the part of the Foster Family will be paid for by the Foster Family.
3) Foster Family Responsibilities: Basic Care Updated January 17, 2024.
a) The Foster Family shall provide the dog with humane care and maintain it following all current state, county, and municipal laws and ordinances while the dog resides with the Foster Family.
b) The Foster Family shall provide the dog with a fully fenced yard or other humane means of exercise. The dog shall not be kept chained or constantly outdoors and never left outside unattended. A leash shall always be used when taking the dog outside if no fence is available. The dog shall be kept primarily indoors and shall never be allowed to sleep outdoors at night.
c) The Foster Family shall treat the dog as a household pet and family member, and shall never use it for breeding, as an attack dog, or exclusively as a guard dog.
i) The Foster Family will not foster any dog if there are unaltered family pets already in existence at the home of the Foster Family.
ii) The Foster Family agrees to provide the dog entrusted to its care with adequate food, water, shelter, affection, socialization, exercise, and medical care as they would their dog. The Foster Family also agrees to provide any basic training or treatment necessary to the well-being of the dog and to help increase its adoptability.
iii) The foster family agrees not to feed the dog Purina or any products manufactured by Purina or MARS Corporation. If they need assistance with food costs, they will contact Lee or Tami.
4) Foster Family Responsibilities: Veterinary care Updated January 17, 2024.
a) The Foster Family is responsible for transporting the foster dog to and from veterinary appointments. If this cannot be performed by the Foster Family, please ask for assistance with transportation. We will use one (1) vet within a 60-mile radius. ALL vet records MUST be in the rescue name, not the foster family's.
i) The Foster Family must take action to ensure prompt veterinary care for the foster dog when there is any sign of illness or injury. If the foster dog is not spayed/neutered when the Foster Family takes possession of the foster dog, the procedure will be scheduled.
ii) The Foster Family agrees not to euthanize any animal without prior approval from a Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. board member unless in an emergency making prior approval impossible. A Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. board member approval will be given only in a) a case of emergency where the injured animal under veterinary care is deemed in consultation with the veterinarian to be terminally ill and suffering and/or b) in the case of terminal illness that undermines the quality of life for the animal.
iii) The Foster Family will keep the dog clean, properly groomed, and free of fleas and ticks. They will be on heartworm-preventative medication and fully vaccinated. Heartworm preventatives
1. Are bought monthly by the Foster Family and reimbursed through PayPal once the receipt picture is texted or emailed to the Director or President.
2. The rescue will purchase the preventative and have it mailed, or the foster family will pick it up at the vet office or pharmacy.
Triflexis is STRICTLY prohibited and will NOT be given to ANY of the dogs in our rescue.
iv) If the foster family feeds the dog Purina or any products manufactured by Purina or MARS Corporation they will be solely responsible for all medical costs incurred when the dog becomes sick.
5) Foster Family Responsibilities: Housing
i) The dog shall reside at the Foster Family’s address. If the dog cannot be kept by the Foster Family, the Foster Family shall notify Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. immediately.
ii) The dog shall not be sold, abandoned, or relinquished to a pound, shelter, or rescue group other than Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc.
(1) Transferred, or given to any individual or retail or wholesale establishment for sale or resale to the public or to any research institution where medical experimentation or other practices occur.
iii) If the Foster Family is going out of town, Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. must be notified of the arrangements that have been made by the Foster Family for the foster dog's care before the Foster Family leaves town. Leaving the foster dog with an unapproved individual or at an unapproved location is unacceptable. Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. is not responsible for arranging for the care. If you need help finding care, please inform the Board members and post on the volunteer page.
iv) The Foster Family understands that Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. and its representatives have limited information regarding the temperament and habits of a rescued dog. The Foster Family will take all reasonable precautions (through the use of crates, leashes, supervision, and common sense) to ensure that the dog does not run loose, become a nuisance, destroy property, injure or become injured by another dog, or injure or become injured by any person or persons.
v) A foster dog under four months of age, or any foster dog not fully vaccinated shall not be taken out in public places where there is the potential for infection or injury.
6) Communication with the Division Director:
a) It is imperative that the Foster Family regularly contact the Division Director, either by text, Facebook DM, or email, with an update on the dog. Written communication is a must for proper record-keeping on each dog.
i) All communications initiated by the Division Director must be responded to within 24 hours of receipt by the Foster Family.
b) The Foster Family agrees to contact their Division Director or a Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. board member as soon as humanly possible in the case of:
i) Emergencies of all manners concerning Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. or their animals.
ii) Questionable care is given by any veterinarian or employee of a veterinarian for a Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. animal.
iii) Abnormal behavior with any Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. animal.
iv) Any Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. animal that has bitten any other animal or persons.
v) Change your status, i.e., new address and/or phone numbers, new baby, etc.
vi) Any questions you may have that are not covered in this policy.
7) Adoptions:
a) Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. Division Director handles all adoptions. Under no circumstance will the Foster Family conduct any adoption of any Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. animal without prior written agreement with a Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. board member.
b) The Foster Family agrees to be courteous, helpful, and honest to potential adopters, and to fully cooperate in accommodating those who wish to see the dog when a meet and greet is set up. The Foster Family will provide Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. with a fair assessment of the dog’s interaction with the potential adopters and their impression of the likely success of such a placement.
c) The Foster Family must provide the adopting family with all veterinary records of the foster dog and all other relevant documents describing the foster dog's behavior, diet, type of treats, behavior, etc. once the adoption is completed and authorization is given to release this information to the adopter.
d) The Foster Family will NOT post the dog's medical history or behavioral issues on social media without permission from Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. You may share any post-Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. provides on your foster dog.
e) Foster Families wishing to adopt their foster dog must follow the standard adoption process. An application will be completed and processed, and the full fee for the foster dog will be charged.
8) The Foster Family agrees to always act in a way that positively represents Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. The Foster Family shall avoid conflicts of any nature and never talk to newspapers, TV, or any related press about Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. without written approval from a Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. board member.
9) Release of Liability
The Foster Family recognizes that Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. is not responsible for damages caused by any foster dog while caring for the Foster Family. The Foster Family does hereby release, discharge, and hold harmless Harlee’s Angels Rescue, Inc. and any person, firm, or corporation charged or chargeable with liability, their heirs, administrators, executors, successors, and assigns, from any claims, damages, expenses, loss of services, actions, and causes of actions, whether known or unknown belonging to the said Foster Family due to any action or occurrence from the date of this agreement arising out of or in connection with the fostering of a dog, except for those expenses specifically described in this document.
10) Enforcement of Agreement
The Foster Family agrees to pay any expenses, including court costs and reasonable attorney fees, in enforcing the terms and provisions of this agreement.
