    Carapace: a bony plate covering the back or part of the back of an animal (such as a turtle or crab)

    Endangered:(of a species) seriously at risk of extinction.

    Excavate: to dig out and remove

    Incubate: to keep eggs, cells, bacteria, embryos, etc. at a suitable temperature so that they develop

    Monitor: observe and check the progress or quality of (something) over a period of time; keep under systematic review.

    Plastron: the ventral part (underside) of the shell of a tortoise or turtle consisting typically of nine symmetrically placed bones

    Research: the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.

    Our field researchers monitor one of the most densely populated sea turtle nesting beaches, record data of sea turtles that we are tracking, monitor our natural areas around our campus for gopher tortoises, excavate marked sea turtle nests, perform research studies along our nesting beach, and so much more!
