Pet Rehoming Request
Animal Care Services (ACS) should be considered a last-resort option for rehoming pets. Due to the shelter’s extremely limited kennel capacity, placement for your pet is not guaranteed, and animals may be euthanized if space is unavailable upon intake.

ACS requires owners to explore alternative options, such as rehoming or contacting nonprofit animal rescue organizations, before submitting this form. Please note that there is a waiting period for any animal for which an owner surrender request has been submitted.

Network your pet
- Owner surrender appointments are scheduled several months in advance. We recommend that you first attempt to rehome your pet independently through websites such as Rehome by Adopt-A-Pet Rehome or Nextdoor. Adopt-A-Pet provides resources to assist with responsibly rehoming your pet.
  
  Please note that San Antonio Animal Care Services is not affiliated with Adopt-A-Pet; this resource is available to the general public.
  
  Verify Residency
- You must be a resident within the City of San Antonio limits to schedule an appointment.
  
  To confirm your residency, please visit Find My Council Member https://www.sanantonio.gov/Council/Find-My-Council-Member. If you are not a San Antonio resident and attend an appointment, you will be turned away.

Please complete this form in its entirety to request an appointment to surrender your pet(s) to San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS).

Clear, recent photos of each animal being surrendered are required; the form cannot be submitted without them.

Microchip information for any pet that matches the person surrendering the pet is required to submit this form.

Proof the pet is listed on a pet rehoming site such as Adopt-A-Pet Rehome is required to submit this form.

San Antonio Animal Care Services has limited capacity for owner surrender intakes. Upon physical surrender, ownership of the animal(s) is immediately transferred to San Antonio Animal Care Services. Please note that surrendered animals may be subject to euthanasia based on the department’s policies, capacity, and the animal’s condition.*
It is my responsibility to provide transportation for the animal to our location at the appointed time of surrender. ACS staff is not able to pick up owner surrendered animals. *

A fee of $25.00 per pet is required for any animal surrendered to ACS.*
Appointments with ACS are scheduled during the following hours: Monday through Friday, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Please note that if an emergency intake occurs during your scheduled appointment time, your appointment may be delayed to accommodate the emergency.*
Owner surrenders to Animal Care Services are available only to residents within the San Antonio city limits. By checking this box, I confirm that I am a resident of San Antonio and understand that if I am not, I will be turned away at the time of my appointment.*
