Dog Daycare Policy
To ensure the safety and health of all animals, clients and staff at Shaffer Animal Hospital and G.O.D.O.G.S. facilities, we require all clients to comply with the following Rules and Regulations:
Health & Wellness
- It is recommended to have your pet spayed or neutered (unless they are under 6 months of age). Intact dogs are still able to participate in the Dog Daycare program subject to behavioral assessment and will be charged an additional $6 fee per day.
- All dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations. Owners must submit written verification that their dogs have current Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella and Canine Influenza (H3N2) vaccinations as well as a negative fecal test. If you are a Dog Daycare client, you will receive reminders from us when vaccinations are due. It is your responsibility to provide on-going verification of current vaccinations.
- All dogs must be in good health. Owners will need to certify that their dogs are in good health and have been free from any condition that could potentially jeopardize other canine guests or human staff.
- Dogs that have been ill with a communicable condition in the last 30 days will require a veterinarian certification of health to be admitted or readmitted to day care.
- If, at any time during day care, a dog is noticed to have fleas or ticks, treatment will be applied and charged to the owner. All dogs will be examined for signs of fleas and ticks at check in and will not be admitted to day care if fleas or signs of fleas or ticks are noticed. We highly recommend a flea and parasite preventative, excluding flea/tick collars.
Personal Items
- All pet food brought to Shaffer Animal Hospital and G.O.D.O.G.S. facilities must be stored in an airtight/rodent proof container. Plastic baggies or opened dog food bags are not acceptable.
Canine Safety
- All dogs must pass a behavioral assessment for enrollment in our program. All dogs must be non-aggressive and not food or toy protective. Owners will need to certify that their dog(s) have not harmed or shown any aggressive or threatening behavior towards any person or any other dog(s).
- Please remember that your pet will be spending time with other pets and their safety and health is our main priority. Keep in mind; although it is supervised play, there are some inherent risks in participating in Dog Daycare. These risks may include, but are not limited to, transfer of communicable diseases such as Canine Papilloma virus (Puppy Warts), Kennel Cough (Infectious Tracheobronchitis), Diarrhea (Stress Colitis), and minor injuries including, but not limited to, broken nails, sore feet, puncture wounds, abrasions and cuts. These injuries are generally benign and can usually be managed by our staff or at home. In some cases, veterinary care may be required.
- Any age dog or puppy is allowed at Shaffer Animal Hospital and G.O.D.O.G.S. facilities asnlong as the dog or puppy meets the day care criteria. Puppies may begin a Dog Daycarenprogram before they receive their Rabies vaccine and before they are spayed ornneutered, as long as both will be taken care of by 6 months of age. Puppies shouldnreceive a minimum of one set of vaccines and a first deworming at least 7 days prior to their first day at daycare.
- All dogs must be wearing a quick release collar or a body harness. No choke collars.
Documentation
- All dogs must have a complete, up-to-date and approved enrollment form on file and commit to twice month program participation. If this commitment is not met, your dog may be required to undergo a reassessment of their behavior and fees may apply.
- If your dog has been out of day care for two months or longer a reassessment is required and fees will be applied.
- Dues are payable at the end of each day.
- Discounted packages are provided only if they are paid in advance.
- Pre-paid packages are non-refundable, transferrable, and expire in 1 calendar year from purchase.
