Dear Passport Scholarship Applicant:
This scholarship is designed for students who are intending to participate in study abroad programs while attending Bennett College. Therefore, priority for passport funds will be given to students who are in freshwoman, sophomore, and junior status and first-time passport holders.
Eligibilities
- Students must be a U.S. Citizen
- Students must be in good academic standing
- Students must be either Freshwomen, Sophomore, or Junior classification
- Preference will be given to students who have completed at least one Study Abroad Advising Session

Directions for completing the Passport Scholarship Application:
Complete the form below, attach the required essay, and click SUBMIT. Note: Your essay should be thoughtfully written and grammatically correct. As with other scholarship applications, we recommend that you have your essays reviewed in the Writing Center or by one of your mentors. Unacceptable essays will be returned for corrections. You will be notified via email when your application has been approved. After approval, our office will complete the necessary paperwork which will provide you with two (2) checks: (1) U.S. Department of State (2) U.S. Postal Service. Note: These checks are good for only 90 days after they are written by the Business & Finance Office. Once you receive the checks, utilize them quickly to receive your U.S. Passport.
Directions for getting your U.S. Passport after your Passport Scholarship Application has been approved:
In your application make sure to place your correct current mailing address on the application. When your checks are ready, Accounts Payable will mail your checks to you. If you are currently on campus place a note in the comment section that says "on campus". The “on campus” note will allow you to pick your checks at the business office located on the 1st floor of the Student Union.
Getting Your Passport!
Step 1: Set an appointment with the Post Office or Guilford County Register of Deeds • If you are on campus you appointment will be with the Guilford County Register of Deeds

• If you are off campus you will need to find a Post Office with passport services near your residence. o Contact: Post Office’s Passport Services
Step 2: Before you go to your appointment, complete your Form DS-11 Application for U.S. Passport on the State Department website.
Step 3: Print your completed DS-11 Application. DO NOT SIGN YOUR APPLICATION. An employee at the Post Office or Register of Deeds must witness your signature.
Step 4: Have a passport photo taken at the office. The price is typically $15 but prices may vary. Bring money!
Step 5: Bring proof of your identity (License or Government ID Card)
Step 6: Bring your Birth Certificate, Nationalization form or another U.S. citizenship document.
Step 7: Purchase a Passport headshot photograph at the United States Postal Service or Register of Deeds for ~$15. Prices may vary. There is a specific photo format that is required, and you must get 2 printed copies of your passport headshot photograph.
Step 8: You must bring both check given to you by Bennett College to pay for your passport.
