At the Fleetwood Area Public Library, we are working to create online programming and social engagement to build connections between teens in our community. Our mission, as a library, is to continue to serve our teens in unique ways to help them face the challenges and changes our community is facing. In order to be flexible, we are turning to two main forms of technology/communication to encourage your teens to stay connected socially, continue to learn and maintain their mental health.
The first is Zoom. Zoom allows us to do online, face-to-face programming, where we can play games as a group, do book discussions, cooking programs and more. Our meeting spaces are private and are made available to the teens via email and Discord.
The second tool we are using to connect to teens is called Discord. Discord is an online chat room and voice chat service that allows us as a library, to create different discussions and programs asynchronously, allowing teens to continue to connect online. The library's Discord is only available by invite to teens that are a part of our program and is not open to the public. It is moderated by two of our library staff and maintains our library's mission of being a safe space for teenagers.
We will continue to learn and adjust, but want your support and approval as parents to help us in this. As we build this online tool, we hope to create an online community that can endure as a support system to our teens beyond the current crisis and into the future. Please fill out the information below and sign to give your teen access to our online programming. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email us at: fleetwoodteens0146@gmail.com.
