The verification process is a two-step process: The first is an initial review of a company’s submission materials, which takes approximately four to six weeks. If the product is eligible to move forward in the verification process, the company will be required to submit documents to prove that their product complies with any applicable restrictions.

Once all of the appropriate substantiation documents have been submitted, the second round of review will take approximately eight to ten weeks. At the conclusion of the second review, the company will be notified about whether their product has been approved, is ineligible for licensing or requires further documentation.

Applicants should anticipate a submission review update approximately four weeks after we’ve received your complete application submission.

Additional licensing fees will be required. Please inquire before submitting the application.

  Please ensure that the products you are submitting for approval do not include any ingredients on the Unacceptable List.
• Restricted List
  Please ensure that the products you are submitting for approval can meet ingredient restrictions on the Restricted List, you will be required to provide additional documentation later in the process
• Product Ingredient Labeling Guidelines
  Please ensure that the products you are submitting for approval can meet the Labeling Guidelines addressed in the Licensing Criteria.
• Product Categories Eligible for Licensing
  Please ensure that the products you are submitting for approval are within the product categories eligible for Licensing.

By submitting an application to the EWG Verified® program, you agree to a non-refundable $250 per product evaluation fee. 

EWG considers distinct formulations to be distinct products, and we recommend submitting a formulation for which you do not anticipate changes.

• If a product comes in multiple scents with unique fragrance ingredients, please submit each scented version as a separate product. 
• If two or more products share the same formulation but have different product names, marketing, or intended users, please submit each product as a distinct product.
• Different packaging sizes are not considered distinct products; please submit these as one product.

If a product is reformulated after application, please submit a new application and email getthemark@ewg.org to cancel your existing one. The reformulation will be subject to the $250 per-product evaluation fee.
