  • You share a four room appartment with your roommate. You each have your own bedrooms and home offices.

You don't know your roommate well. She's quiet and keeps to herself, but she's always been pleasant and pays her portion of the rent on time.

It's been a couple of days since you've seen your roommate, and you've started to worry about her. Her car is still in the parking lot, but she isn't answering your texts. You've knocked on her bedroom door and office with no response.

Getting a little worried, you try to open her bedroom door, but it's locked. Next you try her office door, and it swings open. You step into the room, and the door clicks shut behind you.

You try to open the door but realize that it won't open. The lock is pictured below. There are two locks you must unlock before the door will open.

The first requires a 4 digit number.

The second requires a specific key.

  • After fruitlessly trying the locked door handle a few times, you turn to face your roommate's office.

    This is what you see:

  • You logged in to your roommate's computer successfully.

It looks like she's left an important document open.

  • You successfully unlock your roommate's cell phone. The following text message exchange shows up on the screen:

    (555)555-5555: What's your favorite color?

    Me: :)

(555)555-5555: Why can't you ever just give a straight answer? lol

  • The journal entry reads:

    "The key to choosing

    the right key

    resides in counting to three

    and picking the color

    special to me."

  • Tucked into the shadow box you see a key with the word "DREAM" stamped on it.

You take the key out and put the shadow box back on the book case.

  • There are three books on the desk. Their titles are:

    • #GIRLBOSS
    • CREATIVITY, INC
    • As Little Design as Possible

  • The "DREAM" key opens the locked desk drawer.

Inside you find a huge pile of random keys.

  • The door remains locked.

    Keep trying.

  • Congratulations! You unlocked your roommate's office door. You prop the door open with your shoe and set about putting things back the way you found them. How embarrasing would it be if you got caught sneaking around in your roommate's private office?

You quickly drop the yellow key with the number 3 back into her desk drawer, lock it with the "DREAM" key, and then put the "DREAM" key back in the shadow box. You then pick up your shoe, step into the hallway, and tug the door shut behind you.

And just in time, too! As soon as you pull her door closed, you hear a key turning in your appartment door. Seconds later, your roommate walks through the front door, overnight bag in hand.

You share a pair of odd glances before your roommate shakes her head and points to the refigerator. On it is a note that reads:

Going to my parents for the week. Their cell coverage is super spotty. #moutainlife

"You never noticed my note, did you?" She asks and you laugh out loud.

She'd never believe you were observant enough to get out of her locked office!
