Hey Kern County dance community! We hope you are all doing well and staying healthy during this time of social distancing and quarantine. KDA is not able to offer in-person programs at this time, but we are still on the MOVE! We know many of you are having to adjust your programs as well, and some are out of work at this time. There is so much love for dance and movement in Kern County and we want to continue to reach those looking to move and groove from home. To keep in step with our mission, KDA will roll out a series of pop-up digital dance classes and webinars throughout the remainder of the COVID-19 lockdown. WHY offer JUST DANCE: Digital Pop-Up Series?

KDA strives to help our community thrive through physical movement. Research also tells us that physical activity is good for mental health. Where there is a need, we find a way! What better time than now to help people get back to their love for dance, learn how to dance for the first time, or dance in their living room jsut for fun?

WHAT is JUST DANCE: Digital Pop-Up Series?

You may have heard of a pop-up restaurant or store that opens quickly in a temporary location and is intended to operate for only a short period of time. Similar to last year's pop-up summer adult dance class series, this is meant to pop-up on everyone's social media across Kern County! One teacher will "pop up" on Instagram, Facebook, or Zoom account and go LIVE! The class will be streamed live from 30 minutes to 1-hour, depending on the type of class and age group. The days and times of each teacher's class can vary according to what fits best for their schedule and KDA's JUST DANCE: Digital Pop-Up Series Calendar, so there's no overlap between the classes. Our goal is to provide a variety of dance styles, in a variety of time frames, to a wide range of age groups.

We want to show Kern County the vast array of dance in our community and stress the importance of Kern's creative economy- only YOU can help us do so!

Call to Dance Teachers

KDA is seeking dance teachers to provide exciting dance classes ranging in all styles and levels for a digital pop-up dance classes series during the COVID-19 quarantine.

JUST DANCE: Digital Pop-Up Series Details:

Dance Teacher Obligations:

Teachers will choose one date to offer their class
Teachers will host their class through live streaming on their own social media account or through KDA's Zoom account
Teacher's social media account will need to be public during the promotion phase and during the class so anyone from the community can tune in
Teachers will stick to one style of dance and format of class as described in application
Teacher will acknowledge the class is sponsored by Kern Dance Alliance and Valley Strong Credit Union during their class.
Teacher will encourage particpants to complete the KDA exit survey after their class

KDA Obligations:

KDA will provide technical support to help teachers navigate the livestreaming or Zoom format
KDA will compensate each dance teacher
KDA will market the event to the Kern County community
KDA will provide an exit survey to gauge the interest in offering consecutive digital pop-up dance classes for dance studio owners

Compensation:

KDA will pay dance teachers $40 for 1-hour and $20 for 30-minute honorarium per class.

Classes will be offered for free to the community.

JUST DANCE: Digital Pop-Up Series PROPOSAL:

Dancers will learn simple Square Dance formations and how to respond to a Square Dance caller. I will also provide a little background on the history of Square Dance in the USA."
