The unexpected mid-semester transition from face-to-face classes to remote instruction was disruptive to academic and student life in many respects. In recognition of this fact and to reduce the stress and anxiety students may be experiencing, Emmaus has decided to offer students the option of Satisfactory (S) / Unsatisfactory (U) as a grading mode for the Spring 2020 semester only.
General Policy:
- Faculty will assign final course grades using the official Emmaus grading scale as published in the Academic Catalog and on the Emmaus website (A-F).
- Students who earn an F will automatically receive a U (unsatisfactory) on their official transcript rather than the F. The student will not receive credit for the course, but the grade U will not negatively impact GPA. (Of course, the student will need to retake the class if needed to meet program requirements.)
- Students who earn a D or higher may opt for the grade S (satisfactory). The student will receive credit for the course, but the grade S will not negatively affect GPA.
- Students may opt for the grade S for some or all courses.
- Courses that started the Spring 2020 semester as 100% online courses are exempt from the S/U option.
