  • 💭 Our story

    Sarah Agboola

For our founder, Sarah Agboola, the desire to support parents came from personal experience. When she was a teenager, Sarah's father passed away very suddenly. This left her mum tasked with taking care of a household, three children and full-time work all by herself when what she really needed was someone to take care of her while she recovered from her own grief.

Fueled by this experience, Sarah spent time conducting interviews and running product trials with people at all stages of the parenting journey. Along the way, they discovered that the Australian journal of social issues had actually defined working mothers of young children to be some of the most time-pressured members of society. These insights shaped mtime as it stands today and led to the development and launch of our signature Moncierges in 2017.

  • 🙋Everyone wants to take care of the baby, but who will take care of the parents?

    Moncierge is a family assistant

mtime gives busy parents their time back by matching them with moncierges, family assistants we train to provide a mix of housekeeping and nannying tasks. However, a Moncierge is not just a nanny or a housekeeper. A nanny is there to look after the kids and a housekeeper is there to look after the home.

A Moncierge is there to take care of the wellbeing of the parents. By tackling the things parents would usually do on a daily basis, such as cooking, cleaning, chores and childcare, a Moncierge is able to reduce the stress and overall workload faced by these parents and thereby give them more time to spend with their family and take care of themselves.

  • 🍀 The 4Cs

Our moncierges help parents with the 4Cs:

    Cooking, cleaning, childcare and chore

    • 🍲 Cooking : Most parents put the food on the table every day, but cooking takes a lot of time and energy. A moncierge helps by doing things like:
      • doing the grocery shopping,
      • doing some cooking or meal prep.
    • 🧹 Cleaning : Keeping the house clean and tidy is a constant effort. A moncierge helps by doing things like:
      • Tidying the home,
      • making the beds or vaccuuming the floor.
    • 👚 Chores : There are little things around the house that regularly have to be done but also take a lot of time. A moncierge helps by doing things like:
      • Laundry, ironing and folding,
      • Feeding or walking pets, or waiting for deliveries.
    • 👶 Childcare : On top of everything, having someone to look after the little ones is a real present for busy parents. A moncierge helps by doing things like:
      • Pick up/drop off (if and when possible)
      • Looking after the kids
      • Sitting with them while they do some homework
  • ✋ Things that moncierges don't do

    • ☝ Only 1 of the 4Cs . Moncierges support for the parents by providing a flexible mix of service. They do not provide solely childcare or cleaning.
    • 🧼 Deep cleaning . Moncierges are not professional cleaners. Deep cleaning is a very different service that they don't provide.
    • 🎓 Childhood education . While moncierges can sit with the family's kids and help them with homework. They do not take on the responsibility of as a sole educator.

⌛ How can they do it all?

Well, a moncierge can't do everything at the same time. They follow a task list that is created by mtime, tailored for individual families. The Moncierge is responsible for keeping the family task list up to date over time.

  • 🚪 So what is a typical shift like?

In the typical three hour session, a family might ask their Moncierge to come over every Tuesday at 2pm and do an hour of tidying. At 3pm, their Moncierge may be asked to go and pick up their kids from school, from which point the Moncierge will focus purely on childcare until mum or dad comes home from work. Once mum or dad is home and with the kids, the Moncierge may use the rest of the session to help make dinner.

Other families may want more tasks done, and therefore will ask for a session that is longer than three hours. For example, for a family getting five hours of help per session, the mix of tasks could consist of a one hour tidy, a three hour house clean and one hour of folding and ironing clothing.

It is important to be aware that none of the families you work with will only want help with one type of task. They are hiring a Moncierge specifically because they want help with cooking, cleaning, chores AND childcare. Unfortunately, this means if you only want to do one type of task, we may not be the right fit for you.

  • 🤝 Commitment

When a moncierge accepts a family, they commit to working with that same family at the same time and day each week, for at least 6 months.

    • 🏡 Families rely on a moncierge's commitment to schedule work, be with their kids, relax and organise their life.
    • 🔔 mtime's backend team relies on this commitment to schedule work, organise payment, and placements for other moncierges.
    • 🙋 Your fellow moncierges rely on this commitment to run temporary shifts and training.

When a moncierge misses or abandons their commitment to a family, everyone will be impacted. Even when mtime can find a replacement moncierge for a family, we can't replace the trust, relationship and reliance built with the previous moncierge.

If you can’t commit to working with a family at the same time and day for at least six months, being a moncierge may not be right for you.

  • 🔔 The mtime team exists to support you

mtime operates under a model we call a culture of care. Our culture of care means the mtime internal team focuses on taking care of Moncierges. Our Moncierges then take care of parents by giving them more time for self-care by handling the domestic tasks that build up in a family household. Finally, with the support of their Moncierge, parents can find time to recharge and take care of their family.

The mtime team looks after Moncierges by taking care of:

    • Scheduling : We help you manage your schedule and provide tools to help you see when and where you're working.
    • Payments : Ensuring you are paid on time - every fortnight, without fail.

    • Consistent fortnightly payments : You'll be paid for your work every fortnight.
      • The Moncierge hourly rate is $24.36 per hour for your first three months.
      • After passing the three-month probation, the hourly rate increases to $26.03
    • Superannuation : mtime pays superannuation for all moncierges on top of their hourly rate.
    • Insurance : mtime manages insurance so moncierges can work with confidence
    • Workers compensation : mtime looks after every employee by covering them for workers comp.
    • Community support : moncierges get matched with a mentor and they can also request a temporary moncierge to take their shift when they are not available.
