Support Fund
  • SBHANA Support Fund Application

  • The Support Fund is designed to assist persons with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus with the cost of adapted equipment, medical equipment, services such as adapted lessons or camps, and emergency expenses directly resulting from the fact that the person has spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. Adult members who live independently may also apply for house cleaning services.

This fund does not cover expenses which may be covered by Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL), Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD), private / public medical insurance, Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), or any other government programs. The support fund only covers expenses which are required because the applicant has spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and requests outside of this nature will not be considered.

Applications will be considered at the Board of Directors meetings which occur on the third Wednesday of the month. Please be advised that there are no meetings in July, August or December. In the case of emergency services, applications may be considered outside of these meeting dates.

The Support Fund has a maximum of $1,000 per member per fiscal year (February 1st - January 31st). A maximum of $250 from that $1000 may be used for adapted sport and recreational programming.

APPLICANTS MUST LIVE IN NORTHERN ALBERTA (Red Deer and North) and have a paid 2026 SBHANA membership.

Applications will be marked incomplete if quotes and invoices are not received or membership is not current.

There is no retroactive funding for items and all requests must provide a quote and once approved, a receipt for the item.
