  • ElderHelp Volunteer Application

Thank you for inquiring about volunteer opportunities at ElderHelp!

Since 1973, ElderHelp has been supporting San Diego’s growing population of seniors. Volunteers play a vital role in helping seniors to continue living independently in their own homes and communities.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an increase in the number of seniors who need supportive services in our community. ElderHelp’s programs continue to be in high demand. Please note that services have been modified to maintain the health and safety of both seniors and volunteers.

Because of the sensitive nature of these volunteer opportunities, all prospective volunteers must successfully complete a screening process. This process includes an orientation, application including references, personal interview, and background check. This process may take a couple of weeks to complete. We appreciate your patience.

  • Before you continue with your application, please take a moment to review the following information so that you will know what to expect during the application process.

    APPLICATION PROCESS AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION

What are the Requirements to Volunteer?

    • Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Volunteers must provide their own transportation.
    • Volunteers must complete all of the steps listed below in the onboarding process.
    • Volunteer opportunities have specific safety guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic, therefore in-person/in-home opportunities will require proof of vaccination for the COVID-19 virus.
    • We are unable to accept court-related referrals for community service hours.

    What Areas Do You Serve?

    • Most of our clients reside in Central San Diego (including beach areas up to La Jolla/North Inland to Rancho Bernardo) and East County communities. However, we are beginning to expand into North County areas starting with our Home Safety & Maintenance program.

What are the Steps to Becoming a Volunteer?

    1. Register for an online volunteer orientation by clicking: https://bit.ly/volunteer4EH
    2. Complete this online application.
    3. Background Check (DOJ & FBI): Once you register for an orientation, you will receive the necessary form to complete and take with you to the AAA Livescan office. ElderHelp is splitting the cost and the volunteer portion will be $30, paid directly to AAA Live Scan. (Payment is accepted via cash, card (credit/debit), Apple Pay, or Samsung Pay).
    4. Driving record report: Please provide a copy of your driver’s license and auto insurance. ElderHelp will request a driving record report from the DMV directly and is covering the processing fee.
    5. Once all of the above steps are completed, you will be scheduled for an interview via phone or online meeting and your references will be contacted (giving them a heads up can help speed up the process).
