Basic 40-Hour Certificate Program 6 to 9 Weeks

General Basic Training
Delivery Online with Live Practice Sessions by phone.
Recommended for Interpreters who are native speakers of the non-English language.
40-Hour Certificate

The 40-Hour Program is designed for professionals whose native language is not English, or who have completed a high school education in a country where the non-English language is spoken, and able to read and write in the non-English language at a high school level.

This program prepares you to interpreter for general medical appointments in clinics, or community health.

Courses to be completed to receive a certificate:

Part 1 Basic AMT - English (This is an interactive course with live practice sessions)

Part 2 Basic AMT - Other Language* (Assignment Translations only.) This is not an interactive course. Practice sessions in the non-English language may be available for a fee. (If you want a comprehensive training and interactive course in the non-English language, please sign up for the 60-Hour Program.

Part 3 Basic MIS Assignments in both Languages

Final Exam Both Languages* The Final Exam date must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance. If prepaid, the Final Exam date must be prescheduled during orientation. The final exam will be in both languages and may be done on the computer or over-the-phone.

Live Practice Sessions: By phone/Internet for Part 1 and Part 3. (Part 2 Practice Sessions are not included.)
One-on-one Feedback during practice session: Yes

Practice Sessions are in English, and learning activities and the final exam are in both languages. The language-specific assignments are for your own preparation for the final exam when you would be tested in both languages. The final exam may be a computer oral exam or over-the-phone exam, depending on the language pair.

If your goal is to take the national certification exam, or if you are looking for comprehensive professional-level language-specific training, please register for the 60-Hour program in any of these languages: Arabic, Chinese-Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Turkish, Vietnamese. These courses are offered at a professional-level.

The 60-Hour Comprehensive Program prepares you to interpret in hospitals, medical centers, outpatient surgery and diagnostic centers, medical specialties, in addition to clinics and community health.

We offer 3 payment options.

Payment Option 1:

Basic 40-Hour Program Option 1 $ 595.00
CFE ($75.00) not included.

Prepaid (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3), with the final exam fee to be paid when reserving the final exam date.

Payment Option 2:

Basic 40-Hour Per Course Fee Option 2: $225.00

$225.00 per part. There are three parts. CFE ($75.00) not included.
Payment Option 3: Weekly Installment Payment Plan

This is an option if you would like to make weekly payments. Please contact me for details. You may pay the first payment on the payment page. Your access will depend on the payments made.

$75.00 per week for 9 weeks. Final Exam Fee is included.

The first payment is $100.00 and the the next payments would be $75.00 per week for 9 weeks. Total $775.00.

If you speak minority languages such as Albanian, Amharic, Somali, Nepali, Haitian Creole, etc. please sign up for the Minority Language-Neutral program Option 2. (Albanian, Amharic, Nepali, Haitian Creole and Hindi are also offered as professional language-specific programs based on mentor's availability. Please contact me for more information.)

The assignments will be submitted in both languages and you will practice in both languages. You will receive resources in your non-English language if they are available.

Part 1: Basic English Anatomy and Medical Terminology (3 to 4 weeks)

Part 2: Translation of Terms only.

Part 3: Medical Interpreting Skills (3 to 4 weeks)

You may request a one-week extension if needed.

Final Exam on the 9th or 10th week or earlier.
