Daniel Goleman created the concept of "Emotional Leadership Styles." There are six leadership styles: Authoritative, Coaching, Affiliative, Democratic, Coercive, and Pacesetting. Overall, Authoritative, Coaching, Affiliative, and Democratic styles are associated with positive outcomes, while coercive and pacesetting styles may be less effective. However, all styles may be needed in certain circumstances.
Effective student leaders are aware of their own leadership styles, and take steps to develop these six styles, diversifying their toolbox of leadership strategies.
