As the nation faces the first significant economic downturn since 2008, the Dallas Bar Association, Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, J.L. Turner Legal Association, Dallas Women Lawyers Association, Dallas Hispanic Bar Association, and the Dallas Asian American Bar Association are excited to launch S.T.E.E.R. - Stability Tools for Employment and Economic Resilience, a program that seeks to mitigate against the risks to young lawyers’ and 2020 law school graduates’ employment and career stability following the outbreak of CoVID-19. The Advisory Circles of STEER will be formed by a joint task force comprised of DBA and DAYL Leadership and aim to provide participating young lawyers and 2020 law school graduates access to seasoned attorneys who are knowledgeable about market changes in the profession and potential employment opportunities for young lawyers in the DFW Metroplex.
All participants will be divided into Advisory Groups comprised of small groups of young lawyers in similar stages of their careers. Each Advisory Group will be shepherded by one or two seasoned attorneys who will serve as “advisors” to the group of young lawyer participants. These experienced lawyers are Dallas’ best practitioners in their respective fields. No matter if you are straight out of school, in your first couple years of practice, or are more established and have been furloughed or are concerned you might be, this program will pair you with two experienced lawyers who will be available in a regularly scheduled small group setting as well as for one on one consultation to help you navigate a difficult market.
For young lawyers who would like the opportunity to speak with a STEER Advisor about concerns relating to employment and career stability, but who do not want to be placed into an Advisory Group, please be sure to complete this application and check “no” in response to question 11, below. A STEER Advisor will contact you to discuss your concerns.
Participants of STEER must be 2020 law school graduates or licensed attorneys who are 36 or younger as of January 1, 2020 (or licensed five years or less). Participants must be a DAYL member, and should consider joining the DBA. To join DAYL, click here. To join DBA, click here.
