  • By doing 1 Act of Kindness, WUPA Buddies can enjoy:

    1. Videopal

    Be a videocall "penpal" with university buddies from more than 26 cultures!

    2. World Forum

    Join the forum to discuss world issues from public health, economics, cultures to social norms with buddies from all over the world!

    3. Travelgram

    Host Zoom meetings to share travel photos or photos of your hometown with buddies from all countries!

    4. Language Swap

    Chat with buddies learning your language - Half an hour your language, half an hour their language!

    5. Mini TED Talks

    From "How I Skydived from 14,000 ft" and "My Experience Working in the United Nations" to "How I Persuaded My Murderer to Stop Chasing Me in My Dreams".

    6. Advice Table

    Talk about your problems in our chat group and regular meetings - we are all ears! Or join to listen to others' stories and support each other.

    7. Effective Altruism

    Do good with like-minded university buddies! Share your ideas and take actions together!

    8. Skills Share

    Host or join skillshare workshops from painting, photography to playing musical instruments and learn with our buddies!

    9. Mentorship

    Be a mentee and learn from professionals (coming soon)

  • Guest Buddy with Limited Access

    Without doing 1 Act of Kindness, Guest Buddies can have a taste of WUPA's programmes except Videopal, World Forum, Mentorship, Advice Table and Language Swap. They have:

    • 3 quotas to join one-off sharing events (Travelgram/ Skillshare/ Mini TED Talk)
    • Full access to Effective Altruism community's activities. 

    Guest Buddies can always upgrade to be WUPA Buddies by doing an Act of Kindness and sending the proof to our email.

    DONATION MYTH - "Charities waste my money on admin fees!" 

     

    Very Wrong! Effective Altruism research centres:

    1. Make sure that every $1 you donate has the greatest impact.
    2. Solve the most urgent and ignored problems in the world.
    3. Make decisions based on lots of data and research. 
    4. Recommend World's Top 10 effective charities yearly based on strict criteria.

    These charities are so effective that many millenials even made a lifetime pledge to donate 10% of their income to them.

     

     

    VOLUNTEERING MYTH - “I don't have time."

     

    • It's simple
      • Easiest ones are just 30 min to 1 hour - completed today!
    • It's fun
      • Online texting to counsel unhappy people! (7 Cups)
      • Using your voice to let the disabled see!
    • It's very impactful
      • Stop humanitarian violations by analysing images
      • Fight COVID-19 or earthquakes by editing maps
      • Save rainforests & protect the earth by classifying photos
      • Fight COVID-19 by translating medical texts

    If you are so busy you can't even give 30 min just today to help somebody, why are you even joining us?  Some WUPA buddies even volunteered 7 hours - it's easier than it seems!
